Welcoming the Weekend from Cibadak Station: Railways Reinforce Tourism Access and Mobility in Sukabumi
As the weekend approaches, many people begin planning trips to unwind and take a short break from their routines. Some seek to enjoy the crisp mountain air, explore nature tourism, savor local culinary delights, or simply spend quality time with family. In Sukabumi, one of the travel gateways increasingly utilized by the public is Cibadak Station.
KAI data shows that passenger volume (including both boarding and alighting passengers) at Cibadak Station from January to May 2026 reached 74,281 passengers, marking a 6.46 percent increase compared to the 69,775 passengers recorded during the same period in 2025. This growth underscores the station's expanding role in supporting public mobility across Sukabumi Regency and its surrounding areas.
KAI’s Vice President of Corporate Communication, Anne Purba, stated that the passenger growth at Cibadak Station aligns with the public's rising demand for transportation that seamlessly links residential areas, economic centers, and tourist destinations.
"Cibadak Station serves as a vital transit hub for both daily commuters and weekend travelers. The railway offers a comfortable, punctual, and reliable transportation alternative connected to various destinations along the Bogor–Sukabumi corridor,"
Cibadak Station is served by the KA Pangrango, operating the Bogor–Sukabumi route (round trip), a service that has become the preferred choice for communities along this line over recent years. Through KA Pangrango, passengers are connected to a network of stations, including Bogor, Batutulis, Maseng, Cigombong, Cicurug, Parungkuda, Cisaat, and Sukabumi. This connectivity supports the mobility of workers, students, business actors, and tourists making intercity trips in West Java.
Beyond facilitating daily activities, Cibadak Station is located within close proximity to several of Sukabumi’s premier tourist destinations, which see a high influx of visitors during weekends. From the station area, tourists can easily continue their journey to the Situ Gunung Suspension Bridge—renowned as one of the longest suspension bridges in Southeast Asia—marvel at the beauty of Curug Sawer waterfall, or explore the Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park, which offers pristine mountain vistas and tropical rainforests.
The Cibadak and Sukabumi areas are also celebrated for their diverse culinary heritage and signature souvenirs, making them popular stops for travelers after exploring nature. The ease of rail access makes weekend getaways far more practical, allowing passengers to enjoy their trip without having to face heavy highway traffic congestion.
According to Anne, the growing passenger volume at Cibadak Station demonstrates that the tangible benefits of rail-based transport are increasingly experienced by communities across various regions, including prominent tourism gateways.
"Railways help the community unlock more opportunities and experiences. Some utilize the service for work and education, while others leverage it for leisure and family gatherings. Cibadak Station acts as a key node that bridges these diverse travel needs,"
With sustained passenger growth, the steadfast service of KA Pangrango, and optimized access to Sukabumi’s leading tourist attractions, Cibadak Station continues to cement its role as a vital gateway for mobility and tourism, seamlessly connecting people with diverse destinations across West Java.
