PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) (KAI) recorded a significant increase in railway passenger traffic as the long Isra Miraj holiday began, taking place from 15–18 January 2026.

The surge in travel activity was already evident on the first day of the long weekend, driven by growing public interest in using rail transport for holidays and family visits.

On Thursday (15 January), KAI projected that 153,176 passengers would travel by train across Java and Sumatra.

"The figure is still expected to increase as ticket sales remain open until 24:00 WIB, with seats still available for the public," said KAI Vice President of Public Relations Anne Purba in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday (15 January).

Anne said that passenger movement at the start of the long holiday reflects the strong public enthusiasm for rail transportation.

KAI has ensured that all operational aspects have been fully prepared to provide passengers with a safe, orderly, and comfortable travel experience throughout the Isra Miraj long holiday period.

Cumulatively, during 15–18 January 2026, KAI provided a total of 659,155 seats for long-distance and medium-distance train services.

As of 15 January 2026 at 10:00 WIB, 464,411 tickets had been sold, representing 70.46 percent of the total available capacity. This means that tickets were still available for customers who had not yet planned their trips.

As public mobility increased, several stations recorded the highest departure volumes during the Isra Miraj long holiday, namely:

  1. Pasar Senen – 36,295 passengers
  2. Gambir – 32,043 passengers
  3. Yogyakarta – 29,501 passengers
  4. Semarang Tawang – 18,136 passengers
  5. Bandung – 16,750 passengers
  6. Surabaya Pasar Turi – 16,172 passengers
  7. Lempuyangan – 15,962 passengers
  8. Surabaya Gubeng – 15,051 passengers
  9. Purwakarta – 11,824 passengers
  10. Semarang Poncol – 11,441 passengers

KAI encourages the public to plan their journeys in advance and purchase tickets through official sales channels to avoid running out of seats during the peak of the long holiday period. (Knu)
