National Christmas and New Year Ticket Sales Report: Christmas and New Year Ticket Sales Surpass 4 Million
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) recorded the Joglosemarkerto Train as the most popular train service among the public during the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year (Nataru) transportation period.
KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba said that based on ticket booking data for the period 18 December 2025 to 4 January 2026, the Joglosemarkerto Train achieved a high occupancy rate, reflecting customers' preference for intercity rail services across Central Java and its surrounding areas.
"During the period, Train No. 187 Joglosemarkerto on the Solo Balapan–Semarang Tawang route was booked by 38,989 passengers, while Train No. 193 Joglosemarkerto on the Solo Balapan–Solo Balapan route was booked by 33,689 passengers," Anne said in a statement in Jakarta on Friday.
According to her, this achievement positions the Joglosemarkerto Train as the public's top choice for year-end holiday travel, whether for family trips, tourism, or intercity social and economic activities.
"The strong customer interest in the Joglosemarkerto Train is driven by the quality of its service and the comfort of its facilities," she said.
All Joglosemarkerto Train sets use New Generation coaches modified by Balai Yasa Manggarai, featuring modern interiors, ergonomic seating, comfortable lighting, and a cabin environment designed to enhance medium-distance travel during the extended holiday period.
During the Christmas and New Year season, the Joglosemarkerto Train contributed to maintaining smooth public mobility across Solo, Yogyakarta, Semarang, and surrounding cities.
According to Anne, the high volume of passengers also stimulated regional tourism and local economic activity, including connecting transportation services, culinary businesses, accommodations, and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) around railway stations.
Nationally, KAI recorded 3,976,142 ticket sales for the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year transportation period from 18 December 2025 to 4 January 2026, as of Friday, 2 January 2026, at 08:00 WIB.
This figure represents a 6.58 percent increase compared with the 2024/2025 Christmas and New Year period, which recorded 3,730,584 ticket sales.
Long-distance train ticket sales reached 3,253,432 tickets, or 117.8 percent of the 2,761,048-seat capacity, while local train ticket sales reached 722,710 tickets, equivalent to 97.0 percent of the total 745,056-seat capacity.
The occupancy rate exceeding 100 percent on long-distance trains was driven by the dynamic travel patterns of passengers, with customers boarding and alighting at different stations along each route.
