PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) recorded a strong performance during the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year (Nataru) transportation period. Throughout the period from 18 December 2025 to 4 January 2026, KAI served 4,179,095 passengers, an increase of 12.02 percent compared with the 2024/2025 Nataru period, which recorded 3,730,584 passengers.

Of the total, long-distance train services served 3,392,439 passengers, equivalent to 122.9 percent of the 2,761,048-seat capacity. Meanwhile, local train services served 786,656 passengers, or 105.6 percent of the 745,056-seat capacity. Occupancy rates exceeding capacity were driven by dynamic passenger travel patterns, particularly on local train services, where passengers board and alight at multiple stations during a single journey.

Passenger mobility during the Nataru period also supported tourism activities, family reunions, and economic circulation across various regions, including the tourism sector, connecting transportation services, and local businesses around railway stations.

KAI’s operational performance during the Nataru period was also reflected in its On-Time Performance (OTP) for passenger trains, which remained consistently high. Cumulatively, from 18 December 2025 to 4 January 2026, departure punctuality reached 99.68 percent, while arrival punctuality was recorded at 96.13 percent.

KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin expressed his appreciation to all customers for their trust during the Christmas and New Year transportation period.

"We would like to thank all of our customers for choosing KAI for their Christmas and New Year journeys. The high level of public mobility was well accommodated while maintaining strong operational performance and punctuality. KAI will continue to improve its services to ensure that rail travel becomes increasingly reliable, safe, and comfortable," Bobby said.

During the Nataru period, KAI also introduced a 30 percent fare discount for commercial economy-class train services, valid from 22 December 2025 to 10 January 2026, with a total of 1,509,080 seats allocated under the program. As of 5 January 2026 at 08:00 WIB, 1,524,487 discounted tickets had been sold, or 102 percent of the allocated capacity, reflecting the strong public interest in affordable rail travel.

Looking ahead, KAI remains committed to maintaining operational reliability, improving service quality, and strengthening the role of railways as a public transportation mode that supports national mobility and economic growth across various regions.
