
KAI Expands Train Capacity to Support Passengers Affected by Anak Krakatau Eruption
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) added train carriages to several train services on September 7, 2026. This capacity adjustment was made to provide customers with more diverse travel options in line with the mobility needs of the community.
The additional carriages include executive and economy class services, supported by Stainless Steel New Generation and New Image rolling stock. KAI continues to evaluate customers’ travel needs and operational readiness to provide railway services that are safe, comfortable, and reliable.
KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba said that the addition of train carriages is part of KAI’s service adjustments to provide travel capacity according to the needs of the community.
“KAI continues to monitor customers’ travel needs and adjust service capacity based on operational conditions in the field. The addition of these carriages provides wider travel options supported by increasingly comfortable rolling stock,” said Anne.
The train services receiving additional carriages on September 7, 2026, are as follows:
1. KA 2B Anggrek, Gambir–Surabaya Pasarturi
The service received additional carriages, bringing the total to 9 executive-class carriages using Executive Stainless Steel New Generation rolling stock.
2. KA 204 Tegal Bahari, Pasarsenen–Tegal
3. KA 203 Tegal Bahari, Tegal–Pasarsenen
4. KA 164A Gumarang, Pasarsenen–Surabaya Pasarturi
The services received additional capacity, bringing the total to 4 executive-class carriages and 7 economy-class carriages using Executive and Economy Stainless Steel New Generation rolling stock.
5. KA 117B Gunung Jati, Cirebon–Gambir
6. KA 118B Gunung Jati, Gambir–Semarang Tawang
7. KA 119B Gunung Jati, Semarang Tawang–Gambir
8. KA 120B Gunung Jati, Gambir–Cirebon
The services received additional capacity, bringing the total to 5 executive-class carriages and 5 economy-class carriages using Executive and Economy New Image rolling stock.
Anne explained that KAI continues to ensure service readiness through the management of rolling stock, infrastructure, and train operations so that customers can travel safely and comfortably.
“KAI urges customers to prepare for their journeys properly, starting from checking departure schedules and ticket availability to following the latest information through Access by KAI, KAI’s official website, and other official information channels,” said Anne.
Amid the volcanic activity of Mount Anak Krakatau, KAI also urges customers to maintain their health during their journeys, including wearing masks when necessary, particularly for customers who are sensitive to exposure to volcanic ash or air quality in affected areas.
“KAI encourages customers to arrive at the station early, follow the instructions of station personnel, and check travel information before departure to ensure a safe and comfortable journey,” Anne concluded.
