PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) through its Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) Program, has awarded educational scholarships totaling Rp300 million to five children who lost their parents in the Bekasi Timur train accident.

The scholarships were presented symbolically on Friday, July 10, 2026, at the Jakarta Railway Center. The event was attended by KAI management, KAI Commuter management, KAI's Corporate Social Responsibility team, and the beneficiaries' families.

Each child received Rp60 million in an education savings account. The funds are intended to help cover educational expenses over time, including tuition fees, school administrative costs, learning materials, and academic needs at the next level of education.

KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba said that losing a parent is a difficult experience for every child. Under such circumstances, ensuring continued access to education is essential so that children can continue to learn, grow, and build their future.

"We understand that no assistance can replace the presence of a parent. However, we hope this educational support will ease the burden on the families and help ensure that these children can continue their education and pursue their aspirations," Anne said.

According to Anne, the education savings scheme was chosen to ensure that the funds are securely managed and used according to each child's educational needs. The scheme also provides greater certainty for families in planning long-term education expenses.

The program forms part of KAI's TJSL Social Pillar, which focuses on improving quality of life, expanding access to education, and supporting families facing vulnerable circumstances resulting from tragic incidents.

The scholarships were awarded following a verification and coordination process with the beneficiaries' families. KAI ensured that the assistance was delivered appropriately so that its benefits could be directly enjoyed by the children and their families.

"We want families to have peace of mind knowing that their children's education can continue. We hope these education savings will help sustain their enthusiasm for learning in the years ahead," Anne said.

KAI recognizes that the impact of a tragedy can be felt over a long period. Therefore, the Company's support for the victims' families is directed not only toward their immediate needs following the incident but also toward assistance that supports their lives in the years ahead.

The assistance is expected to help ease the families' financial burden, ensure the children's continued access to education, and provide a greater sense of security in meeting their future educational needs.

"We hope these children will grow up believing that they still have a bright future ahead of them. The support of their families and those around them is invaluable in helping them remain motivated to learn and move forward," Anne added.

At the same time, KAI continues to evaluate and strengthen its safety culture across all operational activities. The Company is reinforcing its safety management system, enhancing workforce competencies, leveraging technology, and continuously improving its operational processes.

Every evaluation serves as an important lesson for the Company to further improve safety standards, strengthen service reliability, and prevent similar incidents from recurring.

"Safety is a responsibility that must be upheld at all times. We extend our deepest sympathies to all families affected by this tragedy and will continue improving our operations to ensure that railway services become even safer and more reliable for the public," Anne concluded.
