PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) is strengthening the integration of Karet Station and Sudirman Baru Station through the development of customer access facilities. This improvement is aimed at enhancing the comfort of public transportation journeys by providing better connectivity between the Karet Station and Sudirman Baru Station areas.

KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba said that the development of Karet Station is part of KAI’s efforts to improve the quality of station facilities while supporting connectivity between urban rail transportation service areas.

“Karet Station continues to serve as an access point for customers. Through the development of these facilities, KAI is improving access and supporting areas so that customers can travel more comfortably, safely, and orderly, with Sudirman Baru Station serving as the central point,” said Anne.

Anne explained that Karet Station and Sudirman Baru Station will continue to serve their respective functions. The integration is being carried out through improvements to customer access and connecting facilities to facilitate connectivity between the station areas.

Based on data from January–August 2026, Karet Station and Sudirman Baru Station served a total of 6,702,680 customer activities. This consisted of 4,909,334 customer activities at Karet Station and 1,793,346 customer activities at Sudirman Baru Station.

As part of the development, KAI is improving the Karet Station side by enhancing the station landscape, providing drop-off areas for onward transportation including online motorcycle taxis, optimizing the use of station areas, and improving pedestrian corridors. These improvements are intended to create more convenient customer access around the station area.

KAI will also prepare connecting facilities from Karet Station to Sudirman Baru Station, consisting of one 20-meter-long flat travelator and two vertical travelators. These facilities will make it easier for customers to move between the station areas and access Commuter Line services at Sudirman Baru Station.

In addition, development on the Kendal side will include additional access escalators, a covered walkway, and improvements to pedestrian corridors. Pedestrian areas and onward transportation access will also be improved to support smoother customer mobility and reduce congestion around Karet Station.

Following the development, Karet Station will serve as an access point for customers traveling by KRL from Sudirman Baru. Meanwhile, connectivity to Sudirman Baru Station will be strengthened through connecting facilities that make it easier for customers to access Commuter Line services.

The integration of Karet–Sudirman Baru Station is also part of the long history of urban rail transportation development. Karet Station began operations in 1922 and became part of the development of the urban KRL network. Subsequently, Sudirman Baru Station began serving railway journeys in 2017–2018 and entered the area integration stage in 2026.

Anne added that the development of station facilities is part of KAI’s efforts to address the evolving mobility needs of people in Greater Jakarta.

“Through the development of Karet Station and connectivity to Sudirman Baru Station, KAI is providing more organized customer access with increasingly improved supporting travel facilities. Strengthening these facilities will support a more comfortable Commuter Line travel experience for the public,” Anne concluded.
