KAI Distributes 1.57 Million Tons of Fuel Oil Through July 2026, Supporting the Smooth Flow of the National Energy Supply Chain

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) transported 1,570,911 tons of fuel oil, or BBM, during January–July 2026. This figure increased by 4.01 percent compared with the same period in 2025, when 1,510,287 tons were transported.

In terms of volume, the increase reached 60,624 tons. With this achievement, an average of approximately 7,410 tons of fuel oil was distributed by rail every day, helping meet the energy needs of communities and businesses in various regions.

Vice President Corporate Communication KAI Anne Purba said that the smooth distribution of fuel oil is directly connected to people's daily activities, ranging from commuting to work, distributing food and essential goods, agricultural activities, and business operations to the provision of public services.

“Fuel oil is directly connected to the rhythm of people's daily lives. Its availability supports people in carrying out their activities, enables businesses to distribute goods, and ensures essential supplies can reach various regions. Through rail-based services, KAI helps maintain the flow of energy from supply centers to distribution areas according to scheduled operations,” said Anne.

The role of domestic distribution has become increasingly important amid the dynamics of the global energy market. The International Energy Agency's July 2026 Oil Market Report noted that global oil supply remained below pre-conflict levels, while refined product markets such as gasoline and diesel remained tight. This situation highlights that the reliability of domestic logistics networks is an important part of maintaining energy availability for communities.

In its fuel oil transportation services, KAI works in synergy with Pertamina Group to distribute Pertalite, Pertamax, and Bio Solar using tank wagons. These services connect supply centers and fuel terminals with distribution destinations across several regions in Java and Sumatra.

The use of train formations provides large capacity in a single trip as well as predictable schedules. This approach helps maintain continuity of supply between regions while also reducing the logistics burden on road transportation, particularly for large-volume and recurring fuel shipments.

KAI also supports national energy policy by adjusting the distribution of Bio Solar from B40 to B50 starting in July 2026. The B50 mandatory policy increases the use of biodiesel derived from domestic resources, reduces dependence on diesel imports, and expands economic value for the palm oil industry and farmers.

“Energy security requires supply, infrastructure, and distribution to operate in harmony. KAI plays a role on the transportation side by ensuring that train formations, tank wagons, railway tracks, and operational processes remain reliable so that energy can safely and punctually reach its destinations,” said Anne.

To maintain the safety and reliability of its services, KAI conducts regular inspections of railway facilities, ensures the readiness of railway operating crews, and strengthens coordination during the loading, transportation, and unloading processes of fuel oil. Operational supervision is carried out in accordance with safety regulations for the transportation of special goods.

KAI will continue to strengthen synergy with Pertamina Group, the government, regulators, and relevant stakeholders. This collaboration is aimed at maintaining the smooth flow of the energy supply chain, strengthening the national logistics system, and supporting community activities and economic growth in various regions.
