Entering its 81st year, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) continues its transformation journey to provide transportation services that increasingly serve the needs of the public. This long journey has been built through service development, technological innovation, and a strong focus on environmental sustainability.

KAI Vice President Corporate Communication Anne Purba said that KAI’s 81st anniversary is a momentum for the company to reflect on its journey while preparing the next steps toward the future.

“Trains have been part of the journey of Indonesian society for decades. Entering its 81st year, KAI continues to grow together with the public through service innovation and sustainable operational management,” said Anne.

From January to August 2026, KAI Group served 351,602,397 customers, an increase of 7.09 percent compared to the same period last year.

This figure demonstrates the role of rail transportation in supporting various public activities, ranging from daily commutes and intercity travel to business trips and tourism.

Along with the growth of its services, KAI is also developing various environmental programs as part of the company’s transformation.

In the area of clean energy, KAI currently operates 113 solar power plants (PLTS) at 92 locations, with a total capacity of 4,430.65 kWp.

The use of solar energy contributes to reducing carbon emissions by more than 5,000 tons of CO₂ per year.

In addition, since July 1, 2026, KAI has implemented the use of B50 biodiesel, contributing to an estimated reduction of around 9,000 tons of CO₂e in 55 days.

“Transportation growth must go hand in hand with environmental responsibility. KAI continues to develop innovations to make people’s journeys more comfortable while supporting a greener future for transportation,” said Anne.

The philosophy behind KAI’s 81st Anniversary logo reflects the spirit of growth, transformation, and sustainability. The shape of the number 81 represents the company’s long journey of continuously moving forward, from experience toward transformation and a greater future.

Through the spirit of Semakin Melayani, KAI continues its journey to provide rail transportation that is increasingly relevant to the needs of the public and the changing times.
