PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) (KAI) recorded strong performance for the Adi Soemarmo Airport Rail Link (KA BIAS) during the January–May 2026 period. In the first five months of the year, KA BIAS served 375,032 passengers, representing a 24.90% increase compared with 300,271 passengers during the same period in 2025.

The increase highlights KA BIAS's growing role as an agglomeration rail service connecting KAI Operational Area 6 Yogyakarta and Operational Area 7 Madiun. Originally introduced to improve connectivity to and from Adi Soemarmo International Airport, the service has since evolved into an important transportation option for communities traveling between Solo, Sragen, Ngawi, Magetan, and Madiun.

KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba said the growth in KA BIAS ridership reflects increasing public demand for comfortable, fast, and reliable short-distance intercity transportation.

"KA BIAS now plays a much broader role in supporting mobility across the agglomeration area. What began as an airport access service has evolved into an important transport link for communities in Solo, Sragen, Ngawi, Magetan, and Madiun. The 24.90% increase in ridership demonstrates that rail transportation is becoming increasingly relevant not only for daily commuting, but also for family travel, education, work, and local economic activities,"

In absolute terms, KA BIAS carried an additional 74,761 passengers during the January–May 2026 period. On average, the service served approximately 2,483 passengers per day throughout the first five months of the year. These figures indicate that KA BIAS continues to build a stronger passenger base, particularly along the mobility corridor connecting eastern Central Java and western East Java.

KA BIAS serves several key stations, including Adi Soemarmo Airport, Kadipiro, Solo Balapan, Solo Jebres, Palur, Sragen, Walikukun, Ngawi, Magetan, and Madiun, in accordance with its operating schedule. These connections provide passengers with convenient travel options linking city centers, residential areas, educational institutions, business districts, and the airport.

Anne explained that agglomeration rail services such as KA BIAS play a strategic role in meeting demand for short- and medium-distance travel. With reliable travel times, passengers can plan their journeys more efficiently without depending on road traffic conditions.

"Communities along the Solo–Madiun corridor need transportation that is flexible, affordable, and easily accessible. KA BIAS addresses these needs by providing scheduled services that connect passengers to key stations throughout the corridor,"

KAI also views KA BIAS as an important service in expanding access to public transportation. For residents of Sragen, Ngawi, Magetan, and Madiun, the service provides additional travel options to Solo, the airport area, and surrounding cities. Likewise, passengers traveling from Solo benefit from improved connectivity to the Greater Madiun region.

With affordable fares based on travel distance, KA BIAS offers a practical transportation option for students, workers, small business owners, families, and other passengers requiring regular travel. Tickets are available through KAI's official sales channels and authorized ticketing partners.

"KAI remains committed to continuously improving the quality of KA BIAS services to make them even more accessible and convenient for the public. This growth in ridership encourages us to further strengthen our agglomeration services so they remain safe, comfortable, and responsive to the mobility needs of the communities we serve,"
