2026 National Children's Day, KAI Provides Children's Play Areas at 40 Stations

The 2026 National Children's Day, celebrated under the theme "Every Child Equal, Joyful Together," serves as a reminder of the importance of creating safe, comfortable, and supportive environments for every child. It also encourages children to spend more time playing, creating, and interacting directly with the world around them.
In line with this spirit, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) continues to provide a range of child- and family-friendly facilities across its stations. Based on KAI's latest facility inventory, children's play areas are now available at 40 stations.

These play areas are spread across 13 KAI Operational Areas (Daop) and Regional Divisions (Divre) throughout Java and Sumatra. They can be found at stations including Gambir, Pasarsenen, Bandung, Garut, Cirebon, Semarang Tawang Bank Jateng, Purwokerto, Yogyakarta, Madiun, Surabaya Gubeng, Malang, Padang, Kertapati, and Tanjungkarang.

KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba said the play areas provide children with enjoyable activities while waiting for their train departures.

"For families, the travel experience begins the moment they arrive at the station. Our play areas allow children to play, explore their creativity, and spend quality time with their families while waiting to board," said Anne.

The availability of these play areas also aligns with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education's National Children's Day campaign, which encourages children to reduce screen time and engage more in real-world activities. While technology remains useful, maintaining a healthy balance with physical play and social interaction is equally important.

"Children need diverse experiences. Through our play areas, they can enjoy activities beyond screens while becoming familiar with the railway environment in a fun and engaging way," Anne added.

Beyond children's play areas, KAI has also provided nursing rooms at 135 stations across its operational network. These facilities offer breastfeeding mothers a more comfortable and private space to care for their children while traveling.

KAI has also equipped 56 major stations with accessible restrooms for passengers with disabilities. These facilities support travelers of all ages and abilities, including children with disabilities and the families accompanying them.

Providing family-friendly facilities has become increasingly important as more people choose rail transportation. During the first half of 2026, KAI served 29,858,267 Long-Distance and Local train passengers, an increase of 8.72% compared with the same period in 2025.

This continued growth has encouraged KAI to further enhance the customer experience from the moment passengers arrive at the station. Family-oriented facilities are part of the company's broader commitment to comfort, accessibility, cleanliness, and safety.

"We want children and families to feel comfortable from the moment they enter the station until they reach their destination. Play areas, nursing rooms, and accessible facilities are all part of our efforts to create a more inclusive travel experience," Anne explained.

KAI also encourages parents and guardians to supervise children while using the play areas, help keep the facilities clean, and follow station staff instructions. Through collaboration between KAI and its customers, stations can remain safe, comfortable, and enjoyable public spaces for children across Indonesia.

"National Children's Day reminds us that every journey should also create meaningful experiences for children. With proper family supervision and supportive facilities, traveling by train can become an opportunity for children to learn, play, and interact with the world around them," Anne concluded.
