PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) served 1,303,191 passengers who benefited from the Government's 30% fare discount during the school holiday period from 20 June to 5 July 2026.

During the same period, KAI continued operating Public Service Obligation (PSO) train services, as well as business class, executive class, and other commercial services. In total, the company served 3,451,031 passengers over the 16-day holiday period.

KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba said the 30% fare discount provided customers with a more affordable travel option, while PSO services continued to meet the public's transportation needs.

"A total of 1.30 million passengers took advantage of the 30% fare discount. At the same time, KAI continued operating PSO trains and other services to support public mobility during the school holiday period," Anne said.

Of KAI's total passengers, 37.8 percent travelled using the 30% discounted fares, while 2,147,840 passengers, or 62.2 percent, used services outside the discount program.

The fare discount, introduced by the Government through the Directorate General of Railways under the Ministry of Transportation, applied to designated commercial economy class train services, covering 150 regular services and 26 additional services.

Compared with the 2025 school holiday period, the number of passengers benefiting from the discount increased by 11.04 percent, from 1,173,612 to 1,303,191 passengers. This represents an additional 129,579 passengers who enjoyed the discounted fares in 2026.

Overall, KAI's total passenger volume also increased by 3.75 percent, rising from 3,326,281 passengers in 2025 to 3,451,031 passengers in 2026. Meanwhile, passenger numbers outside the discount program remained relatively stable, declining slightly from 2,152,669 to 2,147,840.

"The increase in passenger numbers during the school holiday was primarily driven by those benefiting from the fare discount. The program helped customers plan their trips at a more affordable cost," Anne added.

Joglosemarkerto recorded the highest number of discounted passengers with 67,556, followed by Ambarawa Ekspres with 67,298, Kaligung with 55,256, Pangrango with 49,085, and Kamandaka with 48,921.

These services connect major cities across Central Java, the Special Region of Yogyakarta, West Java, and Jakarta.

"Passengers made extensive use of the discounted fares on Joglosemarkerto, Ambarawa Ekspres, Kaligung, Pangrango, and Kamandaka. These services support tourism, family visits, and intercity travel," Anne explained.

Based on passenger data, Pasar Senen Station recorded the highest number of departing passengers using the discount, with 136,136 customers. It was followed by Yogyakarta Station (87,836), Semarang Poncol Station (69,952), Semarang Tawang Station (64,451), and Surabaya Pasarturi Station (51,887).

For arrival stations, Pasar Senen also ranked first with 127,571 passengers, followed by Yogyakarta (89,801), Semarang Poncol (67,181), Semarang Tawang (63,695), and Surabaya Pasarturi (54,567).

The most popular travel routes among discounted passengers were Lempuyangan–Pasar Senen with 17,726 passengers, Pasar Senen–Lempuyangan (16,913), Surabaya Gubeng–Yogyakarta (16,029), Solo Balapan–Semarang Tawang (15,398), and Semarang Tawang–Solo Balapan (15,383).

The data indicate that discounted travel demand was concentrated on routes serving Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Semarang, Solo, and Surabaya.

Across all KAI services, the highest passenger volume occurred on Sunday, 5 July 2026, when the company served 254,939 passengers. This consisted of 94,977 passengers travelling under the discount program and 159,962 passengers using other services.

The fare discount program achieved 110.95 percent of its cumulative program capacity of 1,174,624 passengers. This figure compares the total number of discounted passengers with the program's overall seat allocation throughout the implementation period.

"We extend our appreciation to the Government, particularly the Directorate General of Railways under the Ministry of Transportation, as well as our frontline employees and the public for supporting this program.

The travel data collected during the holiday period will serve as an important reference for improving our services during future holiday seasons," Anne concluded.
