PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) manages spare parts and material inventories with a net value of Rp1.23 trillion as of June 30, 2026, to support the maintenance of facilities and infrastructure. This value includes Rp1.12 trillion in rolling stock spare parts and Rp224.73 billion in infrastructure spare parts before deducting impairment reserves.

Vice President of Corporate Communication KAI Anne Purba said that spare parts readiness is an important part of operations because KAI manages 12,856 units of rolling stock as of June 2026, consisting of 551 locomotives, 1,064 electric multiple units (KRL), 2,238 passenger cars, 8,907 freight cars, and 96 diesel-electric multiple units (KRDE/I).

“Customers see trains when they are on the platform, but behind every journey there is a long maintenance process. More than 12 thousand units of rolling stock require material support, technical personnel, Balai Yasa, depots, as well as disciplined maintenance schedules,” said Anne.

Rolling stock spare parts are used for routine and periodic maintenance of locomotives, passenger cars, generator cars, diesel trains, electric trains, and freight cars, which are carried out at Balai Yasa and depots across various Operational Areas and Regional Divisions.

Meanwhile, infrastructure spare parts are used to support the maintenance of railway tracks, bridges, level crossings, signaling, electrical installations, and communication installations. Their value reached Rp224.73 billion as of June 2026.

KAI's asset management direction is also increasingly emphasizing a data-based life cycle approach so that maintenance and asset renewal decisions can be made according to asset conditions and risk levels.

“Travel reliability begins long before the train departs. Material management and maintenance are activities carried out every day to ensure that rolling stock and infrastructure are ready for use,” concluded Anne.
