School Holiday Weekend: 30% Discount on Economy Trains Effective Starting June 20, 2026

The school holiday period has begun to enter its first weekend. This momentum presents an opportunity for the public to plan family trips, vacations, family visits, and support regional economic mobility at more affordable costs through railway services.

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) invites the public to take advantage of the 30 percent transportation discount program provided by the Government through the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) of the Ministry of Transportation. This program applies to Commercial Economy class train journeys for the period of June 20 to July 5, 2026. Ticket bookings could be made prior to the travel period, while the discount became eligible for customer departures starting Saturday, June 20, 2026.

KAI Vice President of Corporate Communications Anne Purba stated that this discount program serves as vital support for people wishing to travel during the school holidays with more economical, well-planned, and comfortable travel expenses.

w. This weekend can be the perfect time for customers to utilize this program from the Government through DJKA Kemenhub, especially for families looking to go on vacation, visit relatives, or make productive intercity trips,”

Based on KAI data as of June 19, 2026, at 10:00 WIB, the cumulative capacity for the 2026 school holiday transportation discount program reached 1,174,624 seats. Out of this total, 419,319 tickets have been booked, representing 35.70 percent of the available capacity. Consequently, there are still 755,305 seats available for the public to utilize for travel up to July 5, 2026.

Anne mentioned that customer interest appeared strong at the beginning of the departure period. The temporary highest volume was recorded on June 20, 2026, with 58,993 passengers, followed by June 21, 2026, with 53,299 passengers. After that, bookings remained distributed across various departure dates, including June 22, 2026, with 32,541 passengers, June 28, 2026, with 32,280 passengers, and June 26, 2026, with 31,328 passengers.

In the following week, booking volumes continued to follow public travel needs. Departures for June 27, 2026, recorded 27,498 passengers, July 5, 2026, with 25,549 passengers, June 25, 2026, with 21,924 passengers, and July 3, 2026, with 20,781 passengers. Meanwhile, other dates still have seat availability for customers to choose from.

The five trains with the temporary highest booking volumes under the 2026 school holiday transportation discount program are the Joglosemarkerto Train with 19,239 passengers, Sawunggalih Train with 18,030 passengers, Majapahit Train with 17,364 passengers, Pangrango Train with 17,132 passengers, and Progo Train with 14,742 passengers.

Meanwhile, the five departure stations with the highest volumes are Pasar Senen with 61,283 passengers, Yogyakarta with 31,071 passengers, Lempuyangan with 20,927 passengers, Semarang Tawang Bank Jateng with 18,953 passengers, and Bekasi with 17,716 passengers. For destination stations, the highest volumes were recorded at Pasar Senen with 59,024 passengers, Yogyakarta with 35,362 passengers, Lempuyangan with 19,430 passengers, Bekasi with 18,974 passengers, and Semarang Tawang Bank Jateng with 17,338 passengers.

“KAI observes that school holiday travel by train is becoming increasingly popular as customers can choose schedules, departure stations, and destinations according to their needs. This discount program helps the community manage travel budgets while stimulating tourism and economic activities across various regions,”

Anne added that KAI has prepared operational services, station readiness, rolling stock cleanliness, customer service, and digital channels to support smooth travel throughout the school holiday period. Customers can book tickets and check seat availability through the Access by KAI application, the official website kai.id, station ticket counters, and other official sales channels.

KAI urges customers to arrive earlier at the station, ensure the name on the ticket matches their identification, pay attention to departure schedules, and bring baggage in accordance with regulations. Customers are also reminded to monitor travel information through KAI's official channels.
