7.58 Million Customers Enjoyed KAI Executive Class Travel in the First Half of 2026

Mountains visible in the distance, stretches of rice fields along the railway, flowing rivers, and the daily activities of rural communities form part of the experience of traveling by train. From behind the window, passengers can enjoy the gradual change of scenery as they head toward their destination city.

This experience accompanies millions of executive class passengers of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero). Throughout the first half of 2026, KAI’s executive class service was used by 7,575,682 passengers, an increase of 18.78 percent compared to the same period in 2025, which recorded 6,377,851 passengers.

Vice President of Corporate Communication KAI, Anne Purba, stated that executive class travel provides space for passengers to enjoy their travel time more comfortably.

“On the train, passengers can rest, read, complete work, converse with family, or enjoy the scenery from behind the window. Travel time becomes part of the experience before passengers arrive at their destination city,” said Anne.

Morning journeys present sunlight that gradually illuminates rice fields and hills. On certain routes, passengers can observe farmers beginning their activities, markets becoming busy, settlements at the foot of mountains, and the daily life of communities along the railway.

As the journey continues toward the evening, the changing colors of the sky accompany passengers. This panorama gives each route its own character, as the landscapes, urban areas, and community activities along the way differ from one another.

The comfort of executive class also provides passengers with the opportunity to manage their time during the journey. Some passengers choose to rest in order to arrive in a fresher condition. Others use the time to read, work, listen to music, or enjoy the journey with family.

“Train travel presents Indonesia from a closer perspective. Passengers can observe the transition from urban areas to rice fields, hills, rivers, and the cities along the route. Each journey offers a different visual story,” Anne added.

The increase in executive class passengers indicates that the travel experience itself has become one of the considerations for the public in choosing intercity transportation. Comfort onboard, cleanliness, staff service, travel information, and the atmosphere along the route collectively shape the overall passenger experience.

In the first half of 2026, the total number of KAI long-distance train passengers reached 25,188,824. Of this number, executive class passengers accounted for approximately 30.08 percent.

Executive class services are available on various intercity routes connecting government centers, business districts, education hubs, tourist destinations, and community activity centers. The availability of departure times provides passengers with flexibility to align their travel with schedules at their destination.

Daytime journeys offer broader opportunities to enjoy the landscapes along the route. Meanwhile, night journeys allow passengers to rest during travel and arrive in the morning ready to begin their activities.

KAI provides long-distance passenger services in several travel classes, including executive class, which can be booked through the Access by KAI application, the official KAI website, and other authorized ticket sales channels.

Through Access by KAI, passengers can view schedules, select trains, choose seats, and manage tickets prior to departure. Early planning helps passengers align travel time with work needs, family visits, business activities, or tourism.

Anne stated that the passenger experience begins from the planning stage, entering the station, being onboard the train, until arrival at the destination.

“Every detail of the journey must be maintained to ensure passenger comfort. From the ease of obtaining information, staff readiness, cleanliness, comfort during travel, to the atmosphere enjoyed from behind the window. All of these form part of the experience, including in KAI’s executive class service,” Anne concluded.
