The school holiday period is one of the times when public mobility increases across various regions. Travel for tourism, visiting family, participating in educational activities, as well as various economic activities takes place almost simultaneously in many cities. To support these needs, the Government, through the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) of the Ministry of Transportation, has introduced a 30 percent transportation discount program for travel on Commercial Economy Class trains.

As the national railway operator, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) supports the program by providing a capacity of 1,174,624 seats during the departure period from 20 June to 5 July 2026. The program provides greater opportunities for the public to travel at more affordable fares during the school holiday period.

In addition to supporting public mobility, the increase in travel during the school holiday period also contributes to economic activity in various destination regions. The tourism, culinary, hospitality, connecting transportation, and MSME sectors all have the opportunity to benefit from the increased number of visitors during this period.

KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba stated that the Government's discount program through the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) of the Ministry of Transportation could have a positive impact on both the public and travel destinations.

"The Government's discount program through thethe Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) of the Ministry of Transportation provides greater opportunities for the public to travel during the school holidays. Increased mobility also supports economic activity in various destination regions,"

Public enthusiasm for the program has been evident since ticket sales opened on 6 June 2026. As of Monday, 8 June 2026, at 09:30 WIB, KAI had recorded ticket sales of 86,036 tickets, representing 7.32 percent of the total capacity provided.

This means that 1,088,588 tickets, or 92.68 percent of the capacity prepared by KAI, are still available. This condition provides greater flexibility for the public to choose their preferred travel schedules and destinations during the school holiday period.

Preliminary data show that routes to tourism cities, educational hubs, and centers of public activity remain customers' top choices. As of 8 June 2026 at 09:30 WIB, the five most popular routes are:

  1. Pasarsenen–Lempuyangan: 3,256 customers
  2. Lempuyangan–Pasarsenen: 3,188 customers
  3. Pasarsenen–Yogyakarta: 1,987 customers
  4. Yogyakarta–Pasarsenen: 1,410 customers

Pasarsenen–Malang: 1,331 customers

The dominance of routes to Yogyakarta, Solo, Malang, Kutoarjo, Blitar, and Ketapang indicates the high level of public interest in visiting regions with tourism, cultural, educational, and local economic attractions. Increased mobility to these cities has the potential to generate positive impacts across various business sectors during the school holiday period.

Meanwhile, based on train services with discounted fares, the five most popular trains are:

  1. Majapahit Train, Malang–Pasarsenen route (round trip): 5,112 customers
  2. Sawunggalih Train, Kutoarjo–Pasarsenen route (round trip): 4,526 customers
  3. Progo Train, Lempuyangan–Pasarsenen route (round trip): 4,401 customers
  4. Singasari Train, Blitar–Pasarsenen route (round trip): 3,821 customers

Blambangan Ekspres Train, Ketapang–Pasarsenen route (round trip): 3,413 customers

According to Anne, current ticket sales indicate that there is still a significant opportunity for the public to take advantage of the discount program, as the majority of the available capacity remains unsold.

"Public interest continues to grow, but the available capacity remains very large. We encourage customers to plan their trips early so they can take advantage of the discounted fares and enjoy a wider range of travel options,"

The 30 percent discount program applies to all Commercial Economy Class train services for departures from 20 June to 5 July 2026. Tickets can be purchased through all official KAI sales channels.

The terms and conditions of the discount program are as follows:

  1. Tickets with discounted fares can be purchased through all official KAI sales channels.
  2. The discounted fare is valid for departures from 20 June to 5 July 2026.
  3. The discount applies exclusively to Commercial Economy Class train services.
  4. The discount does not apply to special fares and cannot be combined with fare reductions or other discounts.
  5. Tickets purchased with discounted fares may be cancelled or rescheduled in accordance with the applicable regulations.
  6. Train schedules and the list of eligible train services can be viewed through the Access by KAI application.
  7. The program is valid while the allocation of discounted tickets and fares remains available.

Anne added that KAI continues to ensure the readiness of its rolling stock, infrastructure, and operational resources to serve public travel needs during the school holiday period.
