Gumilir Station recorded significant passenger growth from January through May 2026. A total of 62,804 passengers were served during the period, representing an increase of 52.79 percent compared with the same period in 2025, when the station served 41,104 passengers.

This growth was driven by a 51.40 percent increase in departing passengers, rising from 21,706 passengers in January–May 2025 to 32,863 passengers in January–May 2026. Meanwhile, arriving passengers increased by 54.35 percent, from 19,398 passengers to 29,941 passengers.

Vice President of Corporate Communication KAI Anne Purba said that growth exceeding 50 percent in both indicators demonstrates the increasingly important role of Gumilir Station in supporting public mobility in North Cilacap and surrounding areas.

"This growth shows that more people are choosing trains as a mode of transportation that is safe, comfortable, and efficient. Gumilir Station has become an important access point for residents living in the northern part of Cilacap Regency to reach various cities across Java," said Anne.

The increase in passenger volume has coincided with the continued growth of economic activity and population in Cilacap Regency. According to data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS) Cilacap Regency 2025, the regency's population reached 2,007,829 people in mid-2024, consisting of 1,020,920 males and 986,909 females. Covering an area of approximately 2,249 square kilometers, Cilacap is the largest regency in Central Java and one of the major economic centers in the southern part of Java.

From an economic perspective, Cilacap Regency's Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) at current market prices reached approximately Rp151.5 trillion in 2024, making it one of the regions with the largest economic activity in Central Java. Manufacturing, trade, services, energy, port operations, and logistics are among the primary drivers of the local economy.

These characteristics have contributed to increasing public mobility. North Cilacap District, where Gumilir Station is located, has continued to develop with the presence of educational institutions, residential areas, commercial centers, and several industrial zones that generate daily travel demand.

Within this context, Gumilir Station plays an important role in supporting regional mobility. Located at an elevation of +7 meters and operating under KAI's Operational Area 5 Purwokerto, the station resumed passenger services on 1 April 2022 after approximately seven years without serving boarding and alighting passengers.

Since reopening, Gumilir Station has provided more convenient rail access for residents of Gumilir, Tritih Kulon, Karangtalun, and surrounding areas. The station enables local communities to travel by train without having to journey longer distances to other stations.

Currently, Gumilir Station serves several train services connecting Cilacap with major activity centers across Java. These include the Purwojaya Train on the Gambir–Cilacap route, the Wijayakusuma Train on the Ketapang–Cilacap route, and the Joglosemarkerto Train, which connects Cilacap with Yogyakarta, Solo, Semarang, Purwokerto, Tegal, and several other cities.

This connectivity provides broad benefits to the community. Students gain easier access to educational centers, workers can travel more efficiently to economic hubs, business operators enjoy improved access to various commercial destinations, while the general public benefits from transportation options that support social activities and tourism.

Passenger growth exceeding 50 percent demonstrates that Gumilir Station is becoming an increasingly important regional mobility hub. The increase in departing passengers reflects growing travel demand from Cilacap to various destinations, while the increase in arriving passengers indicates that more people are traveling to Cilacap Regency for a variety of purposes.

"Railways play an important role in strengthening interregional connectivity and supporting community economic activities. KAI will continue to provide services that prioritize safety, security, comfort, and punctuality so that the benefits of railway transportation can be enjoyed by an even wider segment of society,"
