Stasiun Caruban Served 45,341 Customers from January to April 2026, Reflecting Growing Mobility in Madiun Regency
The transformation of Madiun Regency in recent years has become increasingly evident through the growing mobility of people traveling to and from Caruban, the regency's administrative center, which continues to develop. This trend is reflected in customer activity at Caruban Station, which recorded positive growth throughout the early months of 2026.
From January to April 2026, Caruban Station served 45,341 customers, consisting of 24,394 departing customers and 20,947 arriving customers. This figure increased compared with the same period in 2025, when the station served a total of 30,812 customers, consisting of 15,687 departures and 15,125 arrivals. As a result, the number of departing customers grew by 55.51 percent, while arriving customers increased by 38.47 percent.
The increase in mobility has gone hand in hand with the economic growth of Madiun Regency. According to data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS) Madiun Regency, the regency's economy grew by 5.33 percent in 2025 compared with the previous year. From the expenditure perspective, household consumption grew by 5.39 percent and became the main driver of regional economic activity. This growth reflects the increasing movement of people for work, education, business, and various social and economic activities.
Vice President of Corporate Communication KAI Anne Purba stated that Caruban's development as the new administrative center of Madiun Regency has also driven the growing need for reliable and scheduled transportation services.
"Madiun Regency is known as the 'Indonesian Martial Arts Village,' with dozens of martial arts schools spread across the region. As Caruban continues to develop as the center of government services and community activities, mobility needs have also increased. Rail transportation has become the preferred travel option for students, workers, government officials, business operators, and martial arts communities from various regions."
Caruban Station's location on Java's main railway corridor makes it an important transportation hub for the community. On the southern line, the station serves the Sangkuriang, Sri Tanjung, Pasundan, and Kahuripan train services. Meanwhile, on the Central Java corridor, customers can travel using the Kertanegara, Malioboro Ekspres, Bangunkarta, Logawa, Brantas, Jayakarta, Gaya Baru Malam Selatan, and Singasari train services. Caruban Station also serves as the terminus for the BIAS Airport Train, connecting the Madiun area with Adi Soemarmo International Airport in Surakarta.
This connectivity plays an important role in supporting the economic structure of Madiun Regency, which is driven by agriculture, trade, and the manufacturing industry. Data from BPS Madiun Regency shows that rice production in 2025 reached 480,264 tons of dry unhusked rice (GKG). The regency is also recognized as one of East Java's food processing centers, producing brem, sambal pecel, and porang-based products, which have experienced significant growth in recent years.
Anne added that the growth in customer numbers at Caruban Station demonstrates the increasingly close relationship between public transportation and community economic activity.
"Reliable mobility helps people access educational institutions, government services, commercial areas, and various other travel destinations. At the same time, easier access also expands business opportunities and strengthens economic connections between regions."
Easy access from Caruban Station also creates greater opportunities for tourists to visit various destinations in Madiun Regency, including the Bening Widas Reservoir, one of the popular recreational destinations in the Greater Madiun area.
KAI continues to improve service quality at Caruban Station to meet the evolving needs of the community while maintaining safe, reliable, and punctual railway operations.
"The growth of mobility in Caruban demonstrates that connectivity plays an important role in supporting regional development. KAI will continue to provide services that strengthen community connectivity, support economic activities, and facilitate travel between regions,"
