The long holiday period of Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijri, which coincides with Pancasila Day, has once again become a momentum for increased public mobility across various regions. Trains have become an increasingly popular travel choice as they connect centers of economic activity, education, government, and tourism with measurable travel times and consistent travel comfort.

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) recorded that as of Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 10:00 WIB, ticket sales for the departure period from May 26 to June 1, 2026, had reached 1,215,456 tickets. This number still has the potential to increase as ticket sales continue. During the first four days of the long weekend period, namely May 26–29, 2026, KAI served 736,819 customers across its operational areas in Java and Sumatra.

KAI Vice President Corporate Communication Anne Purba said that the high customer mobility during this period demonstrates the increasingly important role of railways in supporting interregional movement.

“Public trust in rail-based transportation continues to grow. Trains have become a travel option that meets the community’s needs for easy access, measurable travel times, and comfort throughout the journey,” she said.

KAI also observed increasingly diverse customer travel patterns. Previously, holiday travel flows tended to be concentrated on certain days, but now departure distribution is more evenly spread throughout the holiday period. This pattern shows that people are becoming more flexible in determining their travel times, whether for tourism, visiting family, attending family events, or conducting other intercity trips.

The following is the daily customer occupancy during the long weekend period:

  1. May 26, 2026: 214,349 customers
  2. May 27, 2026: 155,110 customers
  3. May 28, 2026: 175,526 customers
  4. May 29, 2026: 191,834 customers
  5. May 30, 2026: 178,294 customers
  6. May 31, 2026: 150,479 customers
  7. June 1, 2026: 149,864 customers

The data shows that travel demand remained high throughout the holiday period. After reaching the departure peak on May 26, 2026, with more than 214 thousand customers, daily volumes remained above 149 thousand customers. This condition reflects that public mobility was distributed more evenly throughout the long holiday period.

The temporary Top 10 Favorite Departure Stations during the long holiday period from May 26–June 1, 2026, as of May 30, 2026, at 10:00 WIB, include:
1. Pasarsenen Station (PSE): 84,578 customers
2. Gambir Station (GMR): 73,532 customers
3. Yogyakarta Station (YK): 68,951 customers
4. Semarang Tawang Station (SMT): 47,628 customers
5. Bandung Station (BD): 39,727 customers
6. Surabaya Gubeng Station (SGU): 39,094 customers
7. Surabaya Pasarturi Station (SBI): 37,837 customers
8. Purwokerto Station (PWT): 37,268 customers
9. Semarang Poncol Station (SMC): 35,712 customers
10. Solo Balapan Station (SLO): 33,861 customers

The high departure activity from these stations aligns with the role of the cities they serve as centers of economy, education, government, and tourism. Jakarta, through Pasarsenen and Gambir Stations, remains the largest departure point as it is a national activity center with connectivity reaching various regions across Java and Sumatra.

Meanwhile, Yogyakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Solo, Purwokerto, and Surabaya are cities with high levels of public mobility. Data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of the Special Region of Yogyakarta recorded that the number of domestic tourist trips to Yogyakarta during January–March 2025 reached 10,240,350 trips, an increase of 3.49 percent compared with the same period in the previous year, which recorded 9,894,680 trips. These figures demonstrate Yogyakarta’s strong appeal as one of the main travel destinations for the public.

In West Java, BPS Bandung City recorded that domestic tourist trips to Bandung City during January–September 2025 reached 17.76 million trips, an increase of 24.77 percent compared with the same period in the previous year. In December 2025, domestic tourist trips to Bandung City reached 2.278 million trips, with a hotel room occupancy rate of 64.14 percent. These figures indicate the high level of visitor activity in Bandung, which also contributes to the large volume of railway travel.

Anne added that the high level of public mobility during the long holiday period has broader impacts on various economic sectors in travel destination areas. Customer movement through railway services also supports tourism, trade, hospitality, culinary businesses, connecting transportation services, and MSMEs that depend on interregional visitor flows.

“Railways serve as a connector of community activities and a driver of interregional connectivity. When mobility runs well, economic activities also move. Customer journeys during the long holiday period contribute to tourism, trade, services, and MSMEs in various destination cities. KAI will continue to maintain service reliability so that the economic benefits of this connectivity can be felt more widely by the community,” she said.
