Peak Departure Period for Long Weekend Today, 176,967 Customers Projected to Travel by Train in Java and Sumatra

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) recorded high public enthusiasm for using trains during the extended holiday period of Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijri and Pancasila Day. As of Tuesday, 26 May 2026 at 10:00 WIB, a total of 176,967 customers are projected to travel by train across Java and Sumatra today. This figure continues to change as ticket sales are still ongoing through the Access by KAI application and various other official channels.

KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba said that the closely scheduled national holidays of Eid al-Adha and Pancasila Day have encouraged increased public mobility for traveling with family, taking vacations, and returning to their hometowns.

"Train travel during this long weekend period shows quite high public enthusiasm, especially for destinations such as Yogyakarta, Bandung, Semarang, and various other destinations in Java and Sumatra. Many customers are using train services to enjoy their holiday time in a more comfortable and practical way," she said.

Cumulatively, ticket sales for the period of 26 May to 1 June 2026 had reached 783,399 tickets as of Tuesday, 26 May 2026 at 10:00 WIB. This figure is expected to continue increasing ahead of departure dates.

Daily train customer occupancy during the long weekend period:

  • 26 May 2026: 176,967 customers
  • 27 May 2026: 101,874 customers
  • 28 May 2026: 91,776 customers
  • 29 May 2026: 92,643 customers
  • 30 May 2026: 105,637 customers
  • 31 May 2026: 104,244 customers
  • 1 June 2026: 110,258 customers
     

Meanwhile, several routes became customer favorites during this extended holiday period. The Gambir–Yogyakarta route recorded the highest number of customers with 12,778 passengers, followed by the Yogyakarta–Gambir route with 11,790 passengers. Journeys to Yogyakarta, Semarang, Bandung, and Sukabumi dominated customer choices during the long weekend period.

Top 10 favorite KA JJ and Local train routes during the period of 26 May–1 June 2026:
1. Gambir – Yogyakarta: 12,778 customers
2. Yogyakarta – Gambir: 11,790 customers
3. Pasarsenen – Lempuyangan: 8,667 customers
4. Lempuyangan – Pasarsenen: 8,589 customers
5. Semarang Tawang – Gambir: 8,032 customers
6. Gambir – Bandung: 7,640 customers
7.Gambir – Semarang Tawang: 6,862 customers
8. Pasarsenen – Yogyakarta: 6,559 customers
9. Bandung – Gambir: 6,497 customers
10. Sukabumi – Bogor Paledang: 6,134 customers

Anne added that tickets for several train services are still available. The public is encouraged to plan their trips earlier and make reservations through the Access by KAI application or other official channels to ensure a more comfortable and well-planned journey.

"KAI invites the public to take advantage of this extended holiday period by traveling safely and comfortably by train. Customers are also encouraged to arrive earlier at stations and reconfirm departure schedules before starting their journeys," she said.
