Along the railway branch connecting to Malang and Banyuwangi, Bangil Station has developed into an important mobility hub for communities in eastern Java. Activities at this station reflect the dynamics of the Pasuruan area, which relies on education, trade, home industries, and religious tourism journeys throughout the year.

Travel flows at Bangil Station are largely supported by the mobility of Islamic boarding school students, commuter workers, local business owners, and communities traveling for religious tourism to various destinations across East Java. Bangil’s position as the capital of Pasuruan Regency further strengthens the station’s function as a main connector between regions in the Tapal Kuda area and its surroundings.

Throughout January–April 2026, Bangil Station served 38,482 departing customers and 36,965 arriving customers. These figures increased compared to the same period in 2025, which recorded 36,484 departing customers and 35,314 arriving customers. Annually, departing customer volume grew by 5.48 percent, while arriving customers increased by 4.67 percent.

Vice President of Corporate Communication KAI Anne Purba stated that the characteristics of Bangil Station are strongly influenced by the high level of Islamic boarding school education activities and intercity community mobility in the Pasuruan region.

“Bangil has a unique mobility pattern supported by religious education activities, family journeys, and daily worker mobility. The presence of trains plays an important role in maintaining community connectivity with education centers, economic areas, and residential areas in East Java,” said Anne.

Pasuruan Regency is known for having hundreds of Islamic boarding schools with tens of thousands of students coming from various regions across Indonesia. This condition makes Bangil Station one of the main arrival and departure points, especially during school holidays, semester changes, and religious celebrations.

As a station located at the eastern end of the Surabaya Operational Area 8, Bangil serves as a strategic stop for railway journeys across northern, southern, and eastern Java. Customers have various travel options, ranging from Long-Distance Train services such as the Pandalungan Train on the Gambir–Jember route and Wijayakusuma Train on the Cilacap–Ketapang route, to local services supporting daily community mobility.

The Dhoho and Penataran Train services are among the preferred transportation options for communities traveling to and from Surabaya, Malang, Blitar, and Kertosono with affordable fares. Meanwhile, the Supas Train on the Surabaya–Probolinggo route also plays an important role in supporting daily travel for communities in the eastern coastal area of Java.

Travel activities at Bangil Station also contribute to local economic growth. Bangil is known as the largest embroidery center in East Java through its identity as “Bangil Kota Bordir” or Bangkodir. In addition, the area is also one of East Java’s largest producers of tuberose flowers, with production reaching more than 20 million stems in 2025. The high mobility of communities helps drive trade activities, culinary businesses, and small enterprises around the station, including Nasi Punel, a traditional culinary specialty that has become part of Bangil’s local identity.

“KAI continues to maintain connectivity at Bangil Station so that community mobility can take place safely, comfortably, and on time. Train journeys in this area help maintain the rhythm of education, economic activities, and social connections between communities across regions,” concluded Anne.
