Amid the high mobility during the holiday period, trains became a preferred travel option that provided communities with a more comfortable and efficient return journey. There were students returning to their cities of study, workers preparing to resume their activities the following day, and families concluding their holidays with safe and peaceful journeys home.

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) recorded that during the Ascension Day long weekend period from May 13–17, 2026, a total of 960,893 customers used Long-Distance Train and Local Train services managed by KAI across Java and Sumatra.

Vice President of Corporate Communication KAI Anne Purba expressed her appreciation for the continued trust of customers who chose trains as part of their journeys during the long holiday period.

“Thank you for the trust of customers who chose railway services during this long weekend period. The high mobility of the community was well served thanks to customer support and the dedication of all KAI Group employees who continue to maintain services so that journeys remain safe, comfortable, and on time,” said Anne.

Anne added that the high customer mobility during the long weekend also reflects the increasingly important role of railway transportation in supporting community activities and domestic tourism. Travel to various tourism destinations and economic support areas experienced positive growth during the long holiday period.

The temporary ticket sales occupancy during the long weekend period:

  • Wednesday, May 13, 2026: 196,370 tickets

The dominance of travel to tourism destinations such as Yogyakarta, Sukabumi, Padang, Purwokerto, and the southern coastal areas of Java shows the high public interest in experience-based journeys during the long holiday period. Railway services also supported regional economic activity through culinary businesses, accommodation, connecting transportation services, and MSME activities around stations.

KAI continues to conduct evaluations and improve services across various operational aspects, including train punctuality, customer comfort, digital service improvements, and facilities at stations and onboard trains. Customer feedback remains an important part of future service development.

“KAI will continue to receive customer feedback as an important part of developing railway transportation services that are increasingly adaptive to community needs. Every customer journey becomes an evaluation opportunity to provide better services over time,” concluded Anne.
