KAI Successfully Serves 554,407 Customers During the First Three Days of the Long Weekend
The Ascension Day long weekend has driven significant public movement to various cities since Wednesday, May 13, 2026. Activities at major stations have become busier than usual, following the increase in customer travel for holidays, family gatherings, attending social events, as well as fulfilling intercity work and education needs.
Amid this mobility, trains have become a space that brings together various travel stories from the community. There are families taking advantage of the long holiday to reunite, students returning home to meet their parents, and business owners continuing their activities to support economic movement across different regions.
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) recorded that during the first three days of the long weekend period, a total of 554,407 customers used Long-Distance and Local Train services operated by KAI across Java and Sumatra.
Meanwhile, as of Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 10:00 WIB, ticket sales for departures during the May 13–17, 2026 period had reached 861,926 tickets. This number continues to grow as public interest in traveling during the long holiday through railway transportation remains high.
Vice President of Corporate Communication KAI, Anne Purba, stated that trains play an important role in maintaining connectivity between cities, especially during long holiday periods when mobility increases significantly.
“Long weekends always bring dynamic public movement. We see significant increases in travel to tourist destinations, culinary centers, and educational areas. Trains are here to keep communities connected with their various travel needs,” said Anne.
According to Anne, the high level of railway mobility during the long weekend also reflects the important role of public transportation in supporting social and economic activities across different regions.
“Every train journey creates a wider impact. Community activities continue to move, from MSME sectors around stations, feeder transportation services, accommodation providers, culinary centers, to local trade in destination cities. Maintaining mobility during long holidays provides opportunities for local economic growth,” Anne added.
Temporary daily ticket sales occupancy during the long weekend period is as follows:
- Wednesday, May 13, 2026: 196,370 tickets
- Thursday, May 14, 2026: 197,368 tickets
- Friday, May 15, 2026: 160,668 tickets
- Saturday, May 16, 2026: 147,851 tickets
- Sunday, May 17, 2026: 159,669 tickets
The ten destination stations with the highest customer volumes during the long weekend period are:
1. Pasarsenen Station: 55,663 customers
2. Gambir Station: 52,293 customers
3. Yogyakarta Station: 52,111 customers

8. Solo Balapan Station: 26,543 customers
9. Surabaya Pasar Turi Station: 25,690 customers
10. Malang Station: 24,988 customers
The high travel volume to Yogyakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Solo, Purwokerto, and Malang demonstrates the strong appeal of these cities during the long holiday period. Some customers took advantage of the long weekend to enjoy cultural and culinary tourism, while others traveled for family visits, education, and social activities in various regions.
Railway customer movement during the long holiday period also contributed to communities around stations and destination areas. Commercial areas became more active, feeder transportation demand increased, accommodation occupancy rates improved, and small business owners around railway service areas experienced increased economic activity throughout the holiday period.
KAI encourages customers to arrive at stations earlier, reconfirm their departure schedules, and ensure that tickets and travel identification documents are properly prepared. Customers can also use the Access by KAI application to monitor schedules, ticket availability, and various service information in real time.
“Public enthusiasm during the long weekend remains high and travel activities will continue until the end of the holiday period. KAI is committed to maintaining services so that people can enjoy safe, smooth, comfortable journeys while staying connected to various important activities during the long holiday,” Anne concluded.
