The Ascension Day long weekend began to take shape at stations across Indonesia starting Wednesday, May 13, 2026. Customer movement showed a significant increase, particularly for intercity travel on Java Island, driven by holiday trips, family visits, and travel to major economic and educational centers.

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) recorded that on the first day of departures for the long weekend, Wednesday, May 13, 2026, KAI served 196,302 Long-Distance and Local Train customers.

As of Thursday, May 14, 2026, at 09:00 WIB, cumulative ticket sales for the May 13–17, 2026 travel period had reached 685,933 tickets. This number is expected to continue increasing as ticket sales remain available through the Access by KAI application, station ticket counters, and other official sales channels.

“Customer movement at the beginning of the long weekend reflects the high level of public mobility using rail transportation. The travel pattern shows that most departures originate from major cities to various destinations across Java for holidays, family visits, and other intercity travel,” said Vice President of Corporate Communication KAI, Anne Purba.

Temporary daily ticket sales occupancy during the long weekend period is as follows:
- Wednesday, May 13, 2026: 196,302 tickets
- Thursday, May 14, 2026: 162,217 tickets
- Friday, May 15, 2026: 94,477 tickets
- Saturday, May 16, 2026: 102,219 tickets
- Sunday, May 17, 2026: 130,718 tickets

The data indicates that departures were concentrated at the beginning of the long weekend. The high figures recorded on Wednesday and Thursday reflect the public's tendency to maximize the first days of the holiday period for travel. Meanwhile, the increase in ticket sales on Sunday suggests the beginning of return travel to home cities.

KAI also recorded the ten stations with the highest departure volumes during the long weekend period:
1. Pasarsenen Station: 50,587 customers
2. Yogyakarta Station: 44,736 customers
3. Gambir Station: 42,159 customers
4. Semarang Tawang Station: 27,740 customers
5. Bandung Station: 26,493 customers
6. Lempuyangan Station: 24,562 customers
7. Surabaya Pasarturi Station: 23,294 customers
8. Surabaya Gubeng Station: 22,956 customers
9. Purwokerto Station: 20,564 customers
10. Solo Balapan Station: 19,414 customers

The high departure volume from Pasarsenen and Gambir Stations reflects the strong mobility of travelers departing from Jakarta during the long weekend. Meanwhile, the high departure figures recorded at Yogyakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Surabaya, Purwokerto, and Solo Stations indicate that these cities also serve as major regional transportation hubs with consistently high travel activity throughout the holiday period.

KAI encourages customers to arrive at the station earlier, reconfirm their departure schedules, and prepare their travel documents in advance. Customers are also advised to use the Access by KAI application to monitor their tickets, travel schedules, and service information regularly.

“Customers can check ticket availability through the Access by KAI application and other official sales channels. Various travel options are still available for people wishing to enjoy the long weekend by train,” Anne concluded.
