KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba stated that travel during this long weekend is dominated by cities known for tourism, culinary delights, and a comfortable vacation atmosphere that is easily accessible by train.
"Trains remain a popular choice for the public to enjoy long weekends because the journey feels more relaxing and practical. Customers can arrive directly in the city center and continue their sightseeing trips with greater ease," said Anne.
Yogyakarta once again stands out as the most sought-after destination. As of May 12, 2026, at 10:00 WIB, the Yogyakarta–Gambir route recorded 9,547 passengers, while the Gambir–Yogyakarta route reached 8,612 passengers.
The cultural city is always bustling during holiday seasons. The Malioboro area, Yogyakarta Palace (*Keraton*), Tugu Jogja, and the twilight atmosphere at the *Alun-Alun* remain continuous attractions for tourists. In addition, surrounding destinations such as Prambanan Temple, Kaliurang, and various signature culinary spots are easily accessible from the station.
The Lempuyangan–Pasarsenen and Pasarsenen–Lempuyangan routes also made the list of top favorites, with a combined total of over 15,000 passengers. High travel demand toward Yogyakarta shows that the city remains a mainstay destination for a short getaway during long weekends.
Travel to Semarang has also seen a noticeable surge. The Semarang Tawang–Gambir route recorded 5,442 passengers, while the Gambir–Semarang Tawang route reached 5,108 passengers.
Semarang offers a distinct holiday atmosphere blending historical tourism, culinary pursuits, and an aesthetic Old Town (*Kota Lama*) precinct. Many customers are taking advantage of the long weekend to enjoy Lawang Sewu, Kota Lama, Sam Poo Kong, or hunt for local culinary favorites like *lumpia* and *tahu gimbal*.
Bandung likewise remains a strong weekend attraction. The Bandung–Gambir and Gambir–Bandung routes recorded a combined total of over 10,000 passengers. Cool air, nature tourism, factory outlets, and culinary spots in Bandung continue to be top choices for brief vacations with family or friends.
Additionally, the Pasarsenen–Yogyakarta route recorded 4,717 passengers, while the Yogyakarta–Bandung route reached 4,502 passengers, demonstrating high intercity mobility over the long weekend.
Anne added that ticket sales are still ongoing, and the public is encouraged to plan their journeys early to secure their preferred travel schedules.
"Ticket availability can still be monitored through the Access by KAI application and other official channels. People can plan their trips early for a more comfortable vacation experience while plenty of schedule options remain available," Anne concluded.
