
Transport Minister and KAI President Director Pay Respects at East Bekasi Victim’s Funeral Home, Assure Thorough Investigation
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) expresses its deepest condolences for the accident between the Commuter Line Train and the Argo Bromo Anggrek train in the East Bekasi Station area.
KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin, together with the Minister of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia Dudy Purwagandhi and Director General of Railways Allan Tandiono, paid condolences to the victims' families on Wednesday (29/4).
The visit began at the residence of the late Nurlaela in East Cikarang. On that occasion, the entourage directly expressed their condolences to the family.
Following the visit in East Cikarang, the officials continued their condolences visits to two other funeral homes in the Tambun area, namely the residence of the late Arinjani Novita Sari and the late Nur Ainia Eka Rahmadhyna.
On a separate occasion, all members of the KAI Board of Directors also visited the victims' funeral homes in various locations as a form of empathy and corporate responsibility to the grieving families, while handing over compensation.
Bobby expressed apologies and condolences to all victims' families.
"We convey our deep sorrow and deepest apologies to all victims' families for this incident. We are here to directly express our condolences and ensure the families receive support," Bobby said.
He emphasized that KAI is conducting an investigation with related parties and preparing a thorough evaluation of operational safety aspects.
"The investigation process is still ongoing with related parties. The results will serve as the basis for evaluation so that train travel safety is better maintained," he continued.
On that occasion, the victim's family also expressed hope that the cause of the incident can be known soon. Hary Marwata, the father of the late Nur Ainia Eka Rahmadhyna, stated that his daughter was a daily KRL user for her daily activities.
"Every day my daughter used the KRL from Tambun to Palmerah for work. We hope the investigation process runs smoothly and the cause of this incident can be known soon," he expressed.
Based on preliminary data, deceased victims are recorded at 16 people, while 45 people are still receiving treatment and another 45 people have been allowed to return home. All victims have been handled in a number of referral hospitals in the Bekasi area and its surroundings.
As a form of responsibility and care, the KAI Group provides compensation to the victims, namely Rp35,000,000 for deceased victims and Rp15,000,000 for injured victims.
KAI also ensures that the victims' belongings found will be managed and returned to the families through the posts that have been prepared. Information and service posts are stationed at East Bekasi Station to help victims' families, as well as at Gambir Station to support the needs of other affected customers.
Along with the handling at the location, KAI ensures that the tracks in the East Bekasi area have gone through evacuation and cleaning processes. Inspections are carried out before operations are run again, so that all stages run safely and in a controlled manner.
Starting at 14.00 Western Indonesia Time, East Bekasi Station is once again serving passengers, and KRL travel on the Bekasi–Cikarang route is operating normally in stages. Operational recovery is carried out with carefulness.
"All stages have gone through a thorough inspection to ensure the safety of train travel," explained KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba.
KAI will continue to deliver developments on handling regularly and accompany victims' families during this difficult time.
