The government through Indonesian Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi stated that victim handling is the main focus in the incident that occurred in the East Bekasi area. Until now, the total victims are recorded at 106 passengers, consisting of 15 dead and 91 injured, with 38 passengers having been allowed to return home and the rest still undergoing treatment in hospitals.

"We ensure all victims get optimal handling. For KRL operations, reopening will be carried out after all safety aspects are declared fulfilled, including clearance results from KNKT. Trials of facilities, signaling, and station readiness are currently being carried out," said Dudy.

KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin expressed deep apologies to all customers and victims' families for the incident that caused this sorrow.

"We endlessly express apologies to the entire community, especially the victims' families and affected customers. The total victims are currently 106 people, with 15 dead. As many as 53 passengers are still being treated in hospitals and 38 others have been sent home," explained Bobby.

He added that the evacuation process was carried out gradually and with full carefulness, lasting for about 10 hours to ensure all passengers could be handled properly. Subsequently, facility handling was carried out, including the evacuation of the affected KRL trainsets.

In the recovery process, the Bekasi–Tambun downstream line has been open since Tuesday early morning (27/4) at 01.30 Western Indonesia Time. The upstream line has also been declared safe to pass with a speed limit of 30 km/h, in accordance with safety recommendations.

KAI, together with regulators and related parties, continues to conduct thorough evaluations, both internal and external, and fully supports the investigation process by KNKT. In addition, KAI and the Ministry of Transportation also affirmed their commitment to improving safety, including the control of level crossings and compliance with safety standards in the field.

During this recovery period, KAI has set up two posts for 14 days, namely at East Bekasi Station to help victims' families, and at Gambir Station to serve affected Long-Distance Train customers, including the ticket fare refund process.

KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba stated that KAI ensures all affected customers still receive the services they need.

"KAI is committed to providing service to all customers, including the 100% ticket fare refund process for cancelled journeys. We will continue to update information regularly," Anne said.
