KA Progo Offers an Ideal Choice for More Comfortable Weekend Travel Between Yogyakarta and Jakarta

There is a travel option that has long accompanied the Yogyakarta–Jakarta route, namely the Progo Train. This train is known to be close to people's daily lives, featuring affordable fares and a comfortable travel atmosphere, including for spending the weekend.

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) noted that throughout the first quarter of 2026, KA Progo served 115,796 passengers, an increase compared to the same period of the previous year which recorded 109,511 passengers. This growth indicates a growing public interest in using trains for various travel needs.

KA Progo serves trips from Yogyakarta Station (Lempuyangan) to Pasar Senen Station and vice versa, with one trip per day. Along the route, this train stops at a number of stations such as Jatinegara, Cirebon Prujakan, Purwokerto, Gombong, Kebumen, Kutoarjo, and Wates. These points connect various regions with activities that continue daily.

Traveling with KA Progo feels more comfortable. The atmosphere inside the train provides space to rest, chat, or enjoy the travel time more calmly. For many passengers, this trip serves as part of their routine as well as a moment to unwind.

Throughout the journey, passengers are treated to ever-changing scenery. Stretches of rice fields in southern Java, hills around Purwokerto, and the city atmosphere upon entering Cirebon and Jakarta become part of the experienced journey. The trip feels more alive because each segment presents a different atmosphere.

KA Progo is known as "Sepur Praga," which has long been part of the community's travel along the Yogyakarta–Jakarta route. This train connects Yogyakarta as a city of culture and education with Jakarta as the center of national activity. To this day, KA Progo remains a choice close to the hearts of the people.

KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba stated that KA Progo continues to serve public travel, with services becoming increasingly comfortable over time.

"Traveling by train feels more comfortable and gives passengers space to enjoy every moment during the trip," Anne concluded.
