Traveling to the eastern region of Java is now easier to reach with the presence of the Ijen Ekspres train service connecting Malang and Ketapang (Banyuwangi) round trip. Since operating on February 1, 2025, this service has become the public's choice for tourism trips and intercity mobility.

During the period from January to March 2026, KA Ijen Ekspres served 56,105 passengers, an increase compared to the same period in 2025 which saw 22,352 passengers. This growth reflects the continuously growing travel needs with efficient and comfortable transportation choices.

KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba stated that the presence of KA Ijen Ekspres expands access to the eastern region of Java, which holds various tourism potentials.

"Trains provide journeys that are predictable in terms of time and comfortable, while also giving passengers the opportunity to witness directly the character of the regions being crossed," Anne said.

The journey of KA Ijen Ekspres begins from Malang with a mountainous landscape and cool air. The route then moves northward toward the Pasuruan and Probolinggo regions, featuring views of expansive rice fields with a background of mountains in the distance during clear weather conditions.

Entering the Jember region, the atmosphere transforms into quieter plantation and rural areas. Community activities can be seen close to the railway tracks, presenting a picture of daily life running side by side with train transportation.

The journey continues toward Banyuwangi with a route character starting to be dominated by forest areas and hills. The dynamic track contour in this segment offers a different travel experience compared to the previous regions.

Approaching Ketapang Station, passengers enter the easternmost tip of Java Island, which serves as the gateway to various leading destinations such as Ijen Crater, Baluran National Park, and beach areas in Banyuwangi.

The presence of KA Ijen Ekspres facilitates tourist movement while opening economic access for communities along the route. This connected journey encourages tourism activities, local businesses, and increasingly efficient interregional mobility.

The choice of morning and evening departure schedules gives passengers flexibility in planning their trips, whether to enjoy the atmosphere along the route or to rest during the journey.

For ease of trip planning, ticket booking for KA Ijen Ekspres can be done through the Access by KAI application. Passengers can check schedules, choose seats, and arrange travel practically.

"The connectivity built through trains provides benefits to the community. Journeys become more efficient, destinations are easier to reach, and activities in various regions move forward together," Anne concluded.
