KAI Holds Tree Planting Ceremony for 4,500 Trees in Subang, Reinforcing Its Sustainable Environmental Commitment
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) held an agroforestry-based productive tree planting ceremony in Subang Regency, West Java, on Friday, April 24. This activity is part of the KAI Go Green program, reinforcing the company's commitment to sustainable environmental management.
The ceremony was organized by KAI in collaboration with local government, environmental communities, and local residents. Among those present were Subang Deputy Regent Agus Masykur Rosadi and Yugma Foundation Founder Suherlan MS.
During the event, KAI planted 4,500 trees across an 18-hectare plot, consisting of sugar palm (aren), bawor durian, and avocado trees. This planting is designed not only to preserve environmental balance but also to provide long-term economic benefits for the surrounding community.
KAI Director of Strategic Planning and Risk Management, Wilman Sidjabat, stated that this activity forms part of the company's efforts to strengthen its environmental contribution while building direct engagement among KAI employees in the field.
"We are carrying out this activity as part of decarbonization efforts while creating a learning space for KAI personnel. We want to be directly involved, understand the process, and ensure that this planting yields optimal results, both in terms of production and carbon absorption," Wilman said.
The selection of Subang as the location was based on accessibility and ease of monitoring. Its relatively close proximity to Jakarta and Bandung allows for periodic monitoring to ensure environmental benefits are sustainably maintained.
This step runs in parallel with the ongoing sustainability transformation developed by the company. Throughout January to March 2026, KAI Group served 128,055,072 passengers, marking a 9.97% increase compared to the same period in the previous year, alongside enhanced energy efficiency.
Throughout 2025, KAI planted 6,989 trees across various operational regions. Cumulatively, during the 2021–2025 period, the total number of trees planted reached 108,008 across Indonesia.
"We hope this activity provides long-term benefits and continues to grow through collaboration with various parties, ensuring that environmental sustainability goes hand in hand with public mobility needs," Wilman concluded.
