Celebrating Kartini Day, KAI and the Ministry of Creative Economy Showcase Artworks on Board Trains in Collaboration with Erika Richardo
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), in collaboration with the Ministry of Creative Economy, is partnering with young artist Erika Richardo to commemorate Kartini Day. Through this collaboration, painting artwork is applied directly to the trainsets operating on the Jakarta–Surabaya route.
Scheduled for launch on April 21, 2026, this initiative provides a new space for creative works to connect more closely with the public. The Jakarta–Surabaya route was chosen because it represents one of the corridors with high mobility, allowing these artworks to be enjoyed by a greater number of people in their daily lives.
This collaboration brings together complementary roles. Erika Richardo presents her artistic interpretation through her signature visual style, KAI provides a medium with widespread reach through national transportation services, and the Ministry of Creative Economy drives expanded access for creative works into public spaces.
Erika stated that this project serves as a step to bring art from digital spaces into an experience closer to everyday life.
"I want this artwork to be present in many people's journeys. Hopefully, those who see it can feel closer to Indonesian creativity," Erika said.
The Ministry of Creative Economy views this collaboration as part of efforts to expand growth spaces for local intellectual properties (IP).
"Collaborations like this open broader access for Indonesian creative talents to appear in public spaces and directly reach the community," stated Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene Umar.
As a public transportation company, KAI presents trains as a new medium to enhance the customer experience. Travel now also serves as a space for interaction with the ever-evolving creative works in Indonesia.
KAI Director of Human Resources and Institutional Affairs Atih Nurhayati noted that this collaboration aligns with the company's transformation direction.
"The momentum of Kartini Day becomes a space to present more open and inclusive collaborations. KAI wants to deliver journeys that are increasingly close to people's lives and creativity," she said.
In addition to the main artwork, several local IP characters such as Starla (Sekuya), Miyu (Halomiyu), Ripple, and Dripsy also adorn the exterior of the train. The presence of these visual elements introduces a fresh nuance to the journey while strengthening the bond between creative works and the public.
This collaboration demonstrates how synergy among creators, the government, and industry can generate broader value. Creative works gain a new platform, the public enjoys a different experience, and rail travel becomes an integral part of that interaction.
The momentum of Kartini Day reinforces the message of courage to create and opens opportunities for cross-sector collaboration. From the journeys we take every day, creative spaces now emerge and become part of our shared experience.
