KAI Delivers Women-Friendly and Inclusive Services, Ensuring Safer and More Comfortable Travel for All
Train travel has become increasingly integrated into people's daily lives. From commuting to work in the morning, returning home during the Eid holiday, to planning weekend trips, all of these journeys take place within the same shared space. In that space, a sense of safety and comfort is an essential part of the customer experience.
Throughout January to March 2026, KAI Group served 128,055,072 customers, an increase of 9.97% compared to the same period last year. This figure reflects how rail transportation has increasingly become the preferred choice for various travel needs.
Vice President of Corporate Communication KAI, Anne Purba, stated that the company's continuously evolving services are designed to meet the increasingly diverse needs of customers.
“KAI continues to provide services that are responsive to the needs of the public, ranging from women-friendly facilities and child-friendly access to disability-friendly infrastructure,” said Anne.
Long-Distance and Local Train services served 14,515,350 customers, an increase of 18.40% compared to the previous year. Meanwhile, Commuter Line served 101,382,889 customers, up 8.11%.
“Every day, millions of people across various cities rely on the Commuter Line to travel between home, work, school, and back again,” Anne explained.
Growth was also recorded across other services. Jabodebek LRT served 7,754,946 customers, KAI Airport Railink served 1,755,275 customers, South Sumatra LRT served 1,084,242 customers, Whoosh served 1,408,815 customers, and the Makassar–Parepare Railway served 75,421 customers.
Amid this increasing mobility, KAI continues to maintain service quality by providing facilities that support customers' safety and comfort.
Various women-friendly facilities have been made available, including women-only cars on the Commuter Line and Jabodebek LRT during designated hours, as well as separate male and female restrooms on long-distance trains. Through the Access by KAI application, female customers can also choose seats adjacent to other female passengers using the female seat map feature.
For pregnant women, priority seating, dedicated ticket counters, and pregnancy identification pins are available. At stations, KAI provides 120 lactation rooms to support customer comfort during their journey.
For customers traveling with children, kids' play areas are available at selected stations, along with priority seating and family-friendly evacuation routes. Meanwhile, for customers with disabilities, facilities such as guiding blocks, ramps, elevators at major stations, and priority seating on the Commuter Line continue to be enhanced.
In terms of security, KAI has also strengthened its monitoring system through enhanced operational standards, integration between the Command Center and Contact Center, and the utilization of CCTV Analytics at stations and onboard trains.
“We continue to strengthen our systems and supervision while encouraging customers to work together in maintaining our shared space so that every journey remains safe and comfortable,” Anne added.
Throughout January to March 2026, there were 20 complaints related to sexual harassment on Commuter Line services. This data serves as an important concern for continuous improvement, including through strict enforcement of regulations and assistance for victims throughout the legal process.
“A safe journey is built on a well-maintained system and collective awareness. We want every customer to feel more secure from departure until they reach their destination,” Anne concluded.
