Weekend getaways often serve as a welcome pause from daily routines. In West Sumatra, a short train journey offers a close, practical, and refreshing option to experience a different atmosphere.

Throughout the first quarter of 2026, the Pariaman Express Train served 382,748 passengers, marking a 10.16% increase compared to 347,459 passengers in the first quarter of 2025. This growth reflects steadily rising public mobility and highlights how short-distance rail travel is increasingly becoming part of both daily routines and weekend activities.

The Pariaman Express Train operates on a round-trip route connecting Pauh Lima, Padang, and Naras, covering a distance of approximately 75 kilometers. Since the implementation of Gapeka 2025, travel frequency has increased to five round trips daily. With a fare of just Rp5,000, this service provides an easily accessible option for various needs, ranging from routine commuting to casual leisure travel.

The journey begins in Pauh Lima, moves toward downtown Padang, and continues along the coastal region all the way to Naras in Pariaman City. The train stops at several key points deeply integrated into community life, including Alai, Air Tawar, Tabing, and Lubuk Alung. From educational districts and residential neighborhoods to traditional markets, every stop plays its own vital role.

At several points along the route, the railway runs parallel to the coastline. From the train windows, passengers can catch views of the open sea, rows of coconut trees, and coastal community activities. This scenic panorama creates a unique experience, especially as the train approaches the Pariaman area.

Upon arriving in Pariaman, the seaside atmosphere stands out as a primary attraction. Gandoriah Beach, located just a short distance from the station, serves as a favorite destination. Visitors can take leisurely walks along the shore, enjoy local culinary specialties such as *sala lauak*, and spend quality time with family.

This route also showcases the distinct rhythm of life among West Sumatra's coastal communities. The activities of fishermen, bustling local markets, and houses featuring traditional Minangkabau architecture combine to offer an experience deeply connected to everyday life.

"The Pariaman Express Train forms an integral part of our community's travels, whether for routine activities or for enjoying weekend leisure. This short journey delivers a uniquely memorable experience along every route," stated Vice President of Public Relations at KAI, Anne Purba.

KAI continuously evaluates its services by listening to customer feedback and adapting to evolving travel demands. With improved travel frequency and accessible fares, the Pariaman Express Train stands out as a comfortable, affordable, and community-oriented choice.

"For those looking to spend the weekend in a simple yet meaningful way, this journey makes for an ideal option. From the city to the coast, the trip is compact yet filled with lasting impressions," Anne concluded.
