Pegaden Baru Station Grows 395%, Now Bustling and Connecting Subang Residents

Weekends often serve as a time for movement—whether returning home, visiting family, or seeking a change of scenery. In Subang Regency, this movement is increasingly palpable from a station that was once quiet: Pegaden Baru Station.

This station previously ceased serving boarding and alighting passengers for long-distance trains. In recent years, however, its atmosphere has transformed. Today, Pegaden Baru has reclaimed its role as an active hub for residents' activities, serving as a departure and arrival point for diverse destinations.

Vice President of Corporate Communication at KAI, Anne Purba, noted that this shift is reflected in the steady growth of passenger numbers.

"We see a continuous rise in public enthusiasm. Pegaden Baru has returned to being used as a departure and arrival point, aligning with increasingly diverse travel needs," said Anne.

Data shows consistent year-over-year growth. From January to March 2022, departing passengers recorded 3,252 individuals, rising to 8,488 in 2023, 12,430 in 2024, 12,847 in 2025, and reaching 16,110 passengers in the first quarter of 2026.

Alighting passenger movements followed a similar trajectory, growing from 3,146 passengers in 2022 to 8,422 in 2023, 12,612 in 2024, 14,142 in 2025, and hitting 16,063 passengers in Q1 2026.

This increase holds significant meaning for daily community life. Closer access has changed how people plan their journeys. Residents who previously had to travel to Haurgeulis Station (Indramayu Regency) or Bandung City now have a much closer departure point right within their own region.

Currently, Pegaden Baru Station serves various long-distance train services, including KA Gunungjati, KA Dharmawangsa Ekspres, KA Bengawan, KA Airlangga, KA Gaya Baru Malam Selatan, KA Matarmaja, KA Bangunkarta, KA Brantas, and KA Tawang Jaya Premium. This growing array of travel options gives passengers the flexibility to tailor their trips to their specific needs.

"Train travel is now increasingly accessible. People can adjust their travel plans for both routine activities and weekend getaways," Anne added.

Pegaden Baru Station is the only railway station serving passenger boarding and alighting in Subang Regency. With an area of 2,051.76 square kilometers, approximately three times the size of Jakarta, the regency relies on accessible and well connected transportation to support the mobility of its residents.

The presence of this service also unlocks connectivity to various regional potentials. Toward the southern area, the Sari Ater region offers a cool mountain atmosphere with improving accessibility, where visitors can enjoy local culinary specialties such as grilled *etong* fish and Subang pineapples. Meanwhile, in the northern part, Pondok Bali Beach presents a coastal tourism alternative.

In a broader context, the presence of Patimban Port further reinforces Subang's status as a rapidly developing region. Human movement and economic activities intersect, supported by increasingly open transportation access.

Anne added that KAI will continue adapting to evolving public needs.

"Customer feedback remains an essential component in developing our services. With broader connectivity, trips can be planned more easily and integrated seamlessly into community activities across various regions," Anne concluded.
