
KA Joglosemarkerto Records the Highest Passenger Volume in Q1 2026, Strengthening Intercity Mobility in Central Java and Surrounding Areas
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) recorded a continuously growing passenger transport performance in the first quarter of 2026. Long-Distance and Local train services served 14,515,350 customers, an increase of 18.40% compared to 12,261,632 customers in the first quarter of 2025. This growth reflects increasingly active community mobility across various cities on the island of Java.
The Joglosemarkerto train became the commercial long-distance train with the highest customer volume throughout the first quarter of 2026. Its two main trips recorded a total of 246,101 customers, consisting of Train 187 with 127,093 customers and Train 193 with 119,008 customers.
KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba stated that the high interest in the Joglosemarkerto train shows that intercity travel is increasingly becoming a comfortable and reliable choice.
"For customers, traveling by train provides the ease of moving from one city to another with more precise timing. This is what brings trains closer to the needs of daily activities," said Anne.
The Joglosemarkerto train serves a route connecting Solo, Semarang, Tegal, Purwokerto, and is integrated with the Yogyakarta region. This travel pattern shows how customers utilize the train for various activities, ranging from working, studying, to visiting family.
Each city passed presents a different experience. Semarang is known for its Old Town area, which is developing as a historical tourism destination. Tegal and Purwokerto have strengths in culinary tourism and access to natural areas such as Baturraden. Yogyakarta serves as a cultural and educational center, while Solo is developing as a city with continuously moving economic and cultural activities.
Throughout the first quarter of 2026, here are the top 10 trains with the highest customer volumes:

In terms of service, the Joglosemarkerto train currently uses a mixed trainset of Executive and New Generation Economy classes, an innovation by the personnel of Balai Yasa Manggarai. This update brings comfort through a more ergonomic seat design and a more modern cabin atmosphere, making the journey feel comfortable for medium to long distances.
Anne added that a comfortable travel experience is something KAI continuously maintains along with the increase in customer mobility.
