A short getaway from Jakarta to Purwakarta has become an appealing option for experiencing a distinct holiday atmosphere at an exceptionally affordable cost. By combining Commuter Line and Local Train services, passengers can reach various tourist destinations for a total fare of around Rp8,000 to Rp9,000.
From Jakarta Kota or Tanah Abang Station to Cikarang, the Commuter Line fare is around Rp5,000, while from Manggarai it costs just Rp4,000. Passengers can seamlessly continue their journey using the Walahar Local Train to Purwakarta for a fare of Rp4,000. This connected route makes transit straightforward within a single practical itinerary.
The journey to Purwakarta offers a relaxing experience. From the local train windows, passengers can enjoy views of sprawling rice fields and rolling hills that create a serene atmosphere. Upon arrival at Purwakarta Station, tourist areas such as Situ Buleud can be reached on foot, offering a warm and welcoming town feel.
At designated times, the area grows livelier with performances at the Sri Baduga Fountain, recognized as one of the largest fountain shows in Southeast Asia. The combination of water jets, colorful lighting, and cultural narrative creates a memorable visual experience for visitors.

KAI observes public interest in this journey reflected through service expansions along the Cikarang corridor. Daily Commuter Line trip frequencies increased from 158 trips per day in 2015 to 281 trips per day in 2025, demonstrating growing mobility needs.
In terms of volume, users on the Commuter Line Cikarang Line also show a steady upward trend. In 2022, 55,660,235 users were recorded, increasing to 71,636,443 in 2023, then 84,426,385 in 2024, and reaching 85,936,774 in 2025. From January to March 2026, user numbers reached 21,717,664.
Growth is similarly evident on the Walahar Express Local Train service for the Cikarang–Purwakarta route. In 2022, passenger volume reached 2,116,286, rising to 3,253,936 in 2023, then 3,855,463 in 2024, and reaching 4,084,928 in 2025. From January to March 2026, passenger numbers reached 1,065,973.
