Easter Long Weekend 2026: KAI Served 826,198 Customers, Average Daily Occupancy Reached 113.58%
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) recorded a surge in passenger volume during the Easter long weekend holiday period. Based on departure data from April 2 to April 5, 2026, KAI served a total of 826,198 passengers, with average daily seat occupancy reaching 113.58%.
Vice President of Corporate Communication at KAI, Anne Purba, mentioned that this enthusiasm reflects a positive trend among the public relying on trains to enjoy the national holiday momentum for Good Friday and Easter Sunday.
"The public was very enthusiastic about taking advantage of this break for various activities. Some chose tourist exploration, culinary hunting in destination cities, or returning to their hometowns for worship and family gatherings. The atmosphere at stations and on board felt both dynamic and enjoyable," said Anne.
Out of a total capacity of 727,434 seats provided, ticket sales reached 826,198. In detail, Long-Distance Trains served 691,736 passengers, or 111.94% of capacity. Meanwhile, KAI-managed Local Trains delivered strong performance with 134,462 tickets sold, equivalent to 122.79% of the 109,504 available seats.
Occupancy rates exceeding 100% resulted from dynamic passenger patterns (dynamic load), where a single seat is used sequentially by different passengers boarding and disembarking at intermediate stations along the same train route.
Daily passenger volume details during the long weekend period:
• April 2, 2026: 202,931 passengers (111.98% occupancy)
• April 3, 2026: 203,878 passengers (111.91% occupancy)
• April 4, 2026: 187,189 passengers (102.78% occupancy)

Routes connecting Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Bandung, Semarang, and Surabaya remained top choices. The 10 routes with the highest demand were:
1. Yogyakarta – Gambir: 7,828 passengers
2. Gambir – Yogyakarta: 7,529 passengers
3. Pasarsenen – Lempuyangan: 6,452 passengers
4. Lempuyangan – Pasarsenen: 6,415 passengers

"KAI thanks all customers for their great trust. We deeply appreciate the public's choice to use train transportation. KAI continues to conduct thorough evaluations to ensure service quality remains maintained and consistently improved for the comfort of all passengers," Anne concluded.
