Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) Maruarar Sirait, together with the Head of the State-Owned Enterprises Supervisory Agency (BP BUMN) and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Danantara, Dony Oskaria, and the management of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), conducted a series of inspections of KAI-owned land at several locations across Jakarta on Sunday (5 April). The visit was part of the implementation of President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto's directive to accelerate the redevelopment of residential areas surrounding railway corridors and to provide more adequate housing for the public.

The inspection was carried out using an Inspection Train along the Tanah Abang–Kampung Bandan railway corridor, including the former Block E and F demolition sites and the Kampung Bandan Block A area. From aboard the inspection train, the delegation directly observed the existing residential conditions along the railway corridor as part of the initial asset inventory process.

The visit continued with an inspection of KAI-owned assets on Jalan Kemukus, Jakarta, which has been identified as one of the alternative locations for the phased redevelopment program. The delegation then proceeded to inspect KAI assets around Tanah Abang Station before visiting the Tzu Chi Cinta Kasih Flats in Cengkareng as a reference for structured residential development to support the redevelopment of communities along railway corridors.

Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas Maruarar Sirait stated that the Government continues to accelerate the provision of decent housing through cross-sector collaboration. During the visit, he emphasized that the synergy between the Government, state-owned enterprises, and the private sector has resulted in concrete steps toward constructing apartment buildings on state-owned land, particularly for low- and middle-income communities.

"We are working swiftly in the interest of the people, and today we have already taken concrete steps through plans to build apartment housing on state-owned land. This is the result of collaboration between the Government, state-owned enterprises, and the private sector to provide more decent and affordable housing for the public," said Maruarar Sirait.

Danantara Chief Operating Officer and Head of the State-Owned Enterprises Supervisory Agency (BP BUMN) Dony Oskaria stated that land preparation and housing development are part of the Government's and state-owned enterprises' commitment to delivering tangible benefits to the public. He emphasized that collaboration among ministries and state-owned enterprises is a key factor in accelerating housing development programs in various regions, particularly in densely populated areas.

"This program is part of our commitment to providing decent housing for the public. Through the synergy between ministries and state-owned enterprises, we are optimistic that housing development can be implemented more quickly and deliver broader benefits to the people of Indonesia," Dony explained.

KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin stated that the inspection forms part of an accelerated effort to inventory residential areas and prepare a phased and well-planned redevelopment program.

"KAI will immediately begin inventorying residential settlements located along railway corridors, starting from priority locations before expanding to other areas. This effort will be carried out simultaneously with securing railway operational areas and coordinating with relevant ministries to prepare appropriate housing solutions," Bobby said.

According to him, the findings from the inspections at the various locations will serve as the foundation for preparing a more focused redevelopment strategy.

"We ensure that every step we take takes into account both railway operational safety and the needs of the community. The redevelopment is intended to create a more orderly environment while supporting improvements in people's quality of life," Bobby added.

KAI manages more than 327 million square meters of railway land with the potential to support residential development. In the Greater Jakarta area, the development potential is estimated at approximately 131,000 housing units located near transportation hubs, enabling the integration of housing and public mobility.

"KAI will carry out three main initiatives: inventorying residential settlements along railway corridors, securing railway operational areas, and collaborating with various stakeholders to develop both short-term and long term housing solutions that support better living conditions and improve the quality of life of the community," Bobby concluded.
