Highest Record in 5 Years, 2026 Eid al-Fitr Transportation Mobility Reaches Highest Level
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) records that the 2026 Eid (Lebaran) Transport period achieved its highest passenger volume in the last five years. From March 11 to April 1, 2026, KAI-managed Long-Distance and Local Train services served 5,087,458 passengers.
This figure surpasses achievements from the same holiday period in previous years, which recorded 4,707,628 passengers in 2025, 4,398,125 passengers in 2024, 3,841,954 passengers in 2023, and 4,388,034 passengers in 2022.
Vice President of Corporate Communication at KAI, Anne Purba, stated that the high public mobility during Eid was successfully managed through operational readiness across all operational lines.
"This year's Eid Transport period recorded the highest achievement in the last five years. High passenger movement was served effectively through fleet readiness, infrastructure reliability, and well-maintained coordination," said Anne.
In terms of daily operations, Long-Distance Train passenger volume also set new five-year record highs. On several key dates, daily occupancy rates consistently exceeded 140%, reflecting strong travel demand throughout the holiday window.
On March 22, 2026, KAI recorded 242,808 passengers with an occupancy rate of 150.7% out of a capacity of 161,100 seats. On March 23, 2026, passenger volume reached 247,019, or 154.1% of the 160,252 seat capacity. The absolute peak occurred on March 24, 2026, reaching 250,650 passengers or 153.4% of the 163,432 seat capacity. Following that, March 25, 2026, saw 230,822 passengers or 141.2%, while March 29, 2026, recorded 229,260 passengers or 140.3%.
An occupancy rate exceeding 100% is an operational characteristic of long-distance train services, where a single seat can be utilized by more than one passenger during a single trip through intermediate station stops. This operational pattern optimizes service capacity, particularly during high-mobility travel periods like Eid.
On Indonesia's longest rail route, the KA Blambangan Ekspres recorded the highest individual occupancy. The Ketapang–Pasarsenen service served 17,999 passengers with an occupancy rate of 208% out of an 8,668-seat capacity, while the return Pasarsenen–Ketapang service served 17,238 passengers with an occupancy rate of 199%.
Punctuality performance also improved. On-Time Performance (OTP) for passenger train arrivals reached 98.86%, up from 97.23% in the previous Eid period. Meanwhile, departure OTP reached 99.80%, improving from 99.69% in the prior period.
These achievements were echoed across all KAI Group subsidiaries, which posted peak performance metrics during the 2026 Eid Transport period.
KAI Commuter served 24,500,604 passengers, up from 22,173,724 in the previous period, marking its highest Eid volume in five years. KAI Bandara—operating YIA Airport Train and Srilelawangsa services in Medan—served 496,766 passengers, an increase from 480,806.
KA Panoramic and Tourist Train services managed by KAI Wisata served 28,185 passengers, up from 20,229 during the previous Eid. Whoosh high-speed rail served 347,738 passengers, marking its highest Eid transport figure since commercial operations began in October 2023.
LRT Jabodebek served 1,655,011 passengers, increasing from 1,222,825 passengers in the prior Eid period and reaching its highest volume since launching in August 2023. The Makassar–Parepare line served 20,842 passengers, up from 18,618 in the previous period, achieving its highest volume since starting operations in October 2022.
"We express our gratitude for the public's growing trust in KAI Group services throughout this Eid Transport period. We will continue conducting evaluations and enhancements to ensure every journey remains safe, comfortable, and punctual," Anne concluded.
