
First Day of the Long Weekend, KAI Serves 202,821 Passengers with 111.93% Occupancy
Entering the long weekend period of early April 2026, community movement by train is still ongoing in various regions. KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba stated that the momentum of the national holiday for the Death of Jesus Christ on April 3, 2026, and Easter Sunday on April 5, 2026, continues to drive travel activity.
As of April 3, 2026, at 09.00 Western Indonesia Time, ticket sales for the long weekend period of April 2–5, 2026, reached 617,531 tickets out of a total capacity of 727,222 seats or 84.92%. This figure indicates public interest in utilizing trains as a mode of transportation during the long holiday.
Out of that total, as many as 521,669 tickets were Long-Distance Trains or 84.45% of the 617,718 seat capacity. Meanwhile, Local Trains recorded sales of 95,862 tickets or 87.54% of the 109,504 seat capacity.
For today's departure, Friday, April 3, 2026, customer volume is projected to reach more than 162,405 people. This movement shows a travel trend that remains steady throughout the long holiday period.
Daily Occupancy for the Long Weekend of April 2–5, 2026 (as of April 3, 2026, at 09.00 Western Indonesia Time):
• April 2, 2026: 202,821 passengers out of 181,204 seats (111.93%)
• April 3, 2026: 162,405 passengers out of 182,026 seats (89.22%)
• April 4, 2026: 113,649 passengers out of 182,028 seats (76.20%)
• April 5, 2026: 138,656 passengers out of 181,964 seats (71.90%)
The travel pattern shows that the community has planned their mobility since the beginning of the holiday period. A number of main routes recorded high occupancy rates, especially on lines connecting tourist cities and activity centers.
The routes most chosen by customers for both Long-Distance and Local Trains include:
1. Yogyakarta – Gambir: 6,188 passengers
2. Lempuyangan – Pasarsenen: 5,882 passengers
3. Pasarsenen – Lempuyangan: 5,688 passengers
4. Gambir – Yogyakarta: 5,656 passengers
5. Semarang Tawang – Gambir: 4,242 passengers
6. Bandung – Gambir: 3,889 passengers
7. Sukabumi – Bogor Paledang: 3,886 passengers
8. Surabaya Pasar Turi – Pasarsenen: 3,876 passengers
9. Gambir – Semarang Tawang: 3,715 passengers
10. Bogor Paledang – Sukabumi: 3,691 passengers
The emergence of routes such as Bogor – Sukabumi served by the Pangrango train indicates high public interest heading toward nature tourism destinations. This route is known for its mountain panorama and has become a popular short trip choice during long weekend holidays. In addition, Yogyakarta, Semarang, and Bandung remain main destinations with cultural appeal, culinary arts, and various tourist destinations.
KAI maintains operational readiness during the long holiday period by ensuring all service aspects run optimally, ranging from rolling stock conditions, infrastructure reliability, to customer service at stations and during journeys. Customers are advised to plan trips earlier through official channels to get suitable schedule choices.
