Eid Train Ticket Sales Reach 102.3 Percent as Railway Return Travel Reaches Peak Period
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) noted that the Eid Transportation 2026 return flow phase reached its highest point with a significant surge in passenger volume. The certainty of travel time makes trains remain the choice amidst high public mobility.
For four consecutive days of the return flow, passenger volume was at its highest level during the 2026 Eid period with occupancy exceeding 140 percent. On March 22, 242,810 passengers were recorded (150.7 percent), increasing on March 23 to 247,025 passengers (154.1 percent), then reaching a peak on March 24 with 250,650 passengers (153.4 percent), and remaining high on March 25 at 230,784 passengers (141.2 percent).
This figure surpasses the previous year's highest daily volume record of 223,348 Long-Distance Train passengers, while reflecting a strong return flow movement spread across various travel times.
KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba stated that this trend shows an increasingly planned community travel pattern.
"Train travel has continued to increase since mid-March and is currently in the return flow phase. Trains are chosen because they are comfortable, scheduled, and provide travel certainty," Anne said.
Long-Distance Train ticket sales reached 3,896,661 or 109.1 percent of the 3,571,760 seat capacity. Meanwhile, Local Trains recorded 703,518 tickets or 75.9 percent of the 926,936 seat capacity.
Throughout the period from March 11 to 26, 2026, KAI has served 3,678,880 passengers in Java and Sumatra, consisting of 3,081,467 Long-Distance Train passengers and 597,413 Local Train passengers. Passenger mobility continues to increase and is distributed across various regions.
The daily occupancy details show a gradual upward trend until reaching a peak on March 24 of 250,650 passengers (153.4 percent), then remaining high until March 26.

Entering March 27, 2026, passenger movement is still ongoing. Until morning, as many as 190,572 Long-Distance Train passengers have been scheduled to depart with a temporary occupancy of 116.6 percent and still have the potential to increase.
KAI urges the public to consider alternative departure dates or travel routes. During this period, a Silaturahmi Promo is also available in the form of a 20 percent ticket discount for executive class applicable for purchases and departures from March 25 to April 1, 2026.
Anne explained that occupancy above 100 percent is part of the operational pattern of long-distance trains.
"In a single journey, one seat can be used by more than one passenger on different routes so that the number of passengers can exceed the available seat capacity," Anne explained.
Several trains with high booking levels during the Eid period include KA Airlangga, KA Joglosemarkerto, KA Sri Tanjung, KA Bengawan, KA Kahuripan, KA Rajabasa, and KA Jayakarta.
"With capacity still available due to passenger movement at intermediate stations, the public can immediately plan their journey with the train," Anne concluded.
