Ministry of Creative Economy and KAI Introduce New Livery and Themed Designs to Enliven the Lebaran Momentum
The Ministry of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Agency (Ekraf) is collaborating with PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) and Mahakarya Pictures to introduce a train livery and station art installation inspired by the film Pelangi di Mars. This activation is part of efforts to expand the promotion of national films amid high public mobility during the Lebaran period.
Deputy Minister of Creative Economy/Deputy Head of the Creative Economy Agency Irene Umar said that this ongoing collaboration creates broader promotional opportunities for Indonesian creative works, including family films.
“This ongoing collaboration provides opportunities for Indonesian films such as Pelangi di Mars to become more widely known to the public through creative mediums in public transportation such as trains. The homecoming and Lebaran holiday period also feels more festive with imaginative activations that are close to the community,” said Irene Umar on Tuesday, March 17, 2026.
Irene added that the cross-sector synergy also demonstrates the great potential of local Intellectual Property (IP) created by young Indonesian talents and continuing to develop into a force within the national creative industry.
Passengers arriving at Gambir Station will be welcomed by a different atmosphere. The station area is decorated with visual installations themed around the film Pelangi di Mars, ranging from robot elements to set details that capture the film's distinctive atmosphere. The installation provides a space for travelers to take photos while enjoying a more memorable holiday experience.
Meanwhile, on one of the KA Argo Dwipangga trainsets, a special Pelangi di Mars-themed livery features bright colors, the film's main characters, and robotic elements. The combination of the train livery and station decorations creates a fresh visual atmosphere throughout the customer journey.
“Traveling home by train now offers a creative experience that is familiar with the world of children's imagination. We hope this atmosphere will add comfort while creating an enjoyable impression throughout the journey,” added Irene.
Producer of the film Pelangi di Mars, Dendi Reynando, said that the production of children's films in Indonesia remains relatively limited, even though the demand for family entertainment continues to grow. Therefore, Pelangi di Mars is expected to contribute to strengthening characters and stories that can develop into local intellectual property.
“Children's films in Indonesia are still limited. We hope Pelangi di Mars can become part of efforts to develop local IP that continues to grow,” said Dendi.
President Director of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Bobby Rasyidin welcomed the collaboration as a step toward creating a more memorable travel experience for customers while supporting the creative works of Indonesian talents.
“Trains are public spaces that can provide customers with different experiences. Through train livery and station decorations, we want journeys to become more colorful, more memorable, and closer to Indonesian creative works,” said Bobby.
Previously, the Ministry of Creative Economy and KAI had also collaborated by featuring local IP comic characters during Ramadan and the 2025 Lebaran homecoming period. The collaboration continued during the 2025 school holiday through the appearance of the Jumbo character on the body design of long-distance trains. At the end of 2025, another creative activation was held featuring 11 local IPs accompanying customers during the Christmas and New Year period.
This cross-sector synergy reaffirms support for Indonesian creative works, particularly the national film industry. The presence of a national film coinciding with the Lebaran holiday also provides families with a fresh, warm, and imaginative entertainment option. The film Pelangi di Mars is scheduled to be released in cinemas starting March 18, 2026.
