Rajabasa Train Becomes a Key Travel Choice for South Sumatra Communities During the 2026 Eid Holiday
The Rajabasa Train continues to demonstrate its vital role as the backbone of railway services in southern Sumatra. Operating round-trip services on the Tanjungkarang–Kertapati route, the train has become the preferred mode of transportation for people in Lampung and South Sumatra by offering intercity travel with affordable fares, sufficient capacity, and services that meet both daily and seasonal travel needs, including during the 2026 Eid Transportation period.
This role is reflected in the high level of public interest in the Rajabasa Train throughout the Eid Transportation period. The Tanjungkarang–Kertapati route was recorded as one of the nation's top 10 favorite long-distance train services. This achievement makes the Rajabasa Train the only train service in Sumatra to be included in the national top 10 list of most popular routes.
Public enthusiasm is also evident from ticket sales. As of 20 March 2026 at 10:30 WIB, ticket sales for Rajabasa Train (S7) on the Kertapati–Tanjungkarang route had reached 26,481 passengers. Meanwhile, Rajabasa Train (S8) on the Tanjungkarang–Kertapati route recorded ticket sales of 27,239 passengers. As a result, total ticket sales for both directions during the period from 11 March to 1 April 2026 reached 53,720 passengers.
The strong ticket sales demonstrate that the Rajabasa Train has become the primary choice for interprovincial travel across southern Sumatra during the Eid homecoming season. As travel demand increases ahead of Eid, the train provides an efficient, safe, comfortable, and affordable mass transportation solution for people traveling between Bandar Lampung and Palembang.
KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba stated that the high demand for the Rajabasa Train reflects the significant need for railway services in southern Sumatra, particularly during the Eid homecoming period.
"The Rajabasa Train plays a very important role in supporting community mobility across southern Sumatra. The high level of passenger demand demonstrates that this train has become the preferred choice for intercity travel thanks to its affordable fares, adequate capacity, and services that we continue to maintain to ensure safety and comfort throughout the Eid Transportation period," said Anne.
The performance of the service is also reflected in the number of passengers served during the Eid Transportation period. Between 11 March and 19 March 2026, the Rajabasa Train served 22,671 passengers on the round-trip Tanjungkarang–Kertapati route. This figure indicates that passenger movement along this railway corridor continues to grow as the homecoming season begins earlier.
To support this high level of mobility, Rajabasa Train operations are currently supported by eight trainsets. This fleet is essential to maintaining reliable service on one of southern Sumatra's primary railway corridors. The Rajabasa Train serves as a key transportation link between Bandar Lampung and Palembang and continues to be widely utilized by the public.
As a subsidized air conditioned Economy Class service under the Public Service Obligation (PSO) scheme, the Rajabasa Train provides significant accessibility benefits. With fares ranging from Rp29,000 to Rp32,000, passengers can enjoy long distance travel at an affordable cost. These fares make the Rajabasa Train an increasingly accessible transportation option, particularly for workers, students, families, and Eid homecoming travelers seeking economical travel.
During the 2026 Eid Transportation period, the Rajabasa Train plays an important role in supporting smooth community mobility across Sumatra. The service strengthens intercity connectivity, expands travel accessibility, and helps accommodate large volumes of passengers during both the homecoming and return travel periods.
"For the people of southern Sumatra, the Rajabasa Train is a service that is closely connected to their everyday travel needs. During Eid, its role becomes even more significant as it provides an affordable transportation option," Anne concluded.
