KAI's Eid Ticket Sales Reach 3.48 Million; Train Travel Trend During Homecoming Season Continues to Rise
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) noted that sales of Lebaran Transport 2026 tickets continue to show a positive trend along with increasing community mobility ahead of Eid al-Fitr. As of March 18, 2026, at 10.00 Western Indonesia Time, tickets sold reached 3,483,469 tickets or 77.4 percent of the total 4,498,696 seats provided for Long-Distance Train and Local Train journeys in the period of March 11 to April 1, 2026. With this achievement, there are still around 1,015,227 seats available that can be utilized by the public.
KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba stated that this increase in sales shows that the public is starting to utilize trains as the main choice for early homecoming.
"The trend of homecoming travel by train has continued to strengthen since mid-March. This is evident from ticket sales increasing gradually, especially on long-distance train services which are the public's choice for intercity travel," Anne said.
On Long-Distance Train services, ticket sales have reached 3,141,282 tickets or 87.9 percent of the total 3,571,760 seats provided. This means there are still around 430,478 seats available that can be booked by the public for homecoming or return travel.
Meanwhile, on Local Train services managed by KAI, ticket sales were recorded at 342,187 tickets or 36.9 percent of the total 926,936 available seats. Thus, there are still around 584,749 seats available that can be utilized by customers. Local train ticket sales generally continue to move closer to the departure date because most services can only be booked starting H-7.
During the first seven days of the Lebaran Transport period, namely March 11 to 17, 2026, Long-Distance Train services have served 1,125,378 customers across various routes in Java and Sumatra. This figure indicates that the homecoming flow started forming earlier and continues to increase from day to day.
The customer volume and daily occupancy of Long-Distance Trains on March 11–17, 2026, are as follows:
• March 11: 101,617 customers out of 159,404 seat capacity (63.7 percent)
• March 12: 126,208 customers out of 159,404 seat capacity (79.2 percent)
• March 13: 165,675 customers out of 163,432 seat capacity (101.4 percent)
• March 14: 185,873 customers out of 163,432 seat capacity (113.7 percent)
• March 15: 180,836 customers out of 163,432 seat capacity (110.6 percent)
• March 16: 173,753 customers out of 163,432 seat capacity (106.3 percent)
• March 17: 191,398 customers out of 163,432 seat capacity (117.1 percent)
For March 18, 2026, customer movement is projected to remain high. By morning, there were around 188,678 Long-Distance Train customers scheduled to travel, with temporary occupancy reaching 115.4 percent. This figure still has the potential to increase along with ongoing ticket sales.
Anne added that occupancy levels above 100 percent are possible in long-distance train operations due to dynamic travel patterns within a single trainset.
"In a single long-distance train journey, one seat can be used by more than one customer on different routes. This scheme allows the number of customers served to be larger than the number of seats available in a single trip route," Anne explained.
A number of trains with high demand during the Lebaran Transport 2026 period include KA Airlangga, KA Joglosemarkerto, KA Sri Tanjung, KA Bengawan, KA Kahuripan, and KA Rajabasa.
Nevertheless, the public still has the opportunity to get tickets on certain trips, including through alternative route choices, different departure schedules, and connecting travel schemes. KAI also urges customers to utilize connecting train services and choose more flexible travel dates so that the chance of getting tickets is even greater.
"With capacity availability still quite large, KAI invites the public to immediately plan their Lebaran journey well so that homecoming runs more comfortably, smoothly, and pleasantly with trains," Anne concluded.
