People's Economy Class Trains Serve 4,372 Passengers During the Early Days of the 2026 Eid Transportation Period

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) recorded high public interest in the Kereta Ekonomi Kerakyatan service operated during the 2026 Eid (Lebaran) Transport period. As of March 15, 2026, at 10:00 WIB, ticket sales for the service reached 23,033 tickets out of 27,368 total seats provided for travel between March 11 and April 1, 2026, representing an occupancy rate of approximately 84 percent. Ticket sales are expected to rise continuously alongside increasing travel demand approaching the peak homecoming flow.

Since beginning operation on March 11, 2026, the Kereta Ekonomi Kerakyatan has been utilized by numerous customers traveling early. During the March 11–14, 2026 period, this service accommodated 4,372 passengers. Meanwhile, as of March 15, 2026, ticket sales for departures on that day reached 1,197 passengers, with potential for further increase leading up to departure times.

Vice President of Corporate Communication at KAI, Anne Purba, explained that the Kereta Ekonomi Kerakyatan service was introduced to provide broader travel options for the public during the Eid period while expanding transport capacity along high-demand corridors.

"We introduced the Kereta Ekonomi Kerakyatan to expand travel choices for the public during the Eid period. With increased capacity and more comfortable seating arrangements, this service is expected to support public mobility while maintaining affordable train fares," said Anne.

The Kereta Ekonomi Kerakyatan is incorporated into the KA Tambahan (Additional Train) service operating on the Pasarsenen–Lempuyangan route, comprising five executive class coaches and four economy kerakyatan coaches. This trainset offers a capacity of 250 executive class seats and 372 economy kerakyatan seats, providing extra travel capacity during peak mobility ahead of Eid.

The trainset operates across two daily trips:
• KA 7039 Tambahan (Lempuyangan–Pasarsenen), departing at 06:00 WIB and arriving at 13:56 WIB
• KA 7040 Tambahan (Pasarsenen–Lempuyangan), departing at 15:25 WIB and arriving at 22:57 WIB

In terms of rolling stock features, the Kereta Ekonomi Kerakyatan offers more ergonomic seating arrangements designed for medium- to long-distance travel. Each coach contains 93 seats arranged in a 3–2 configuration, providing more spacious seating compared to the previous 106-seat layout.

In addition to roomier seating space, the seats are equipped with a reversible feature, allowing the seat direction to be adjusted to match the train's direction of travel. This layout delivers enhanced comfort for passengers throughout the journey.

Regarding fares, this service is positioned between subsidized Public Service Obligation (PSO) Economy Trains and regular Economy Trains. For the longest route during this year's Eid Transport period, Kereta Ekonomi Kerakyatan fares start at Rp175,000, ensuring the public retains access to affordable travel options paired with improved facilities.

Anne added that KAI continuously optimizes its rolling stock fleet to fulfill public mobility demands during the Eid period, which consistently grow year after year.

"By optimizing our existing rolling stock, travel capacity can be increased while delivering an improved journey experience for customers. We want the public to have more options for safe, comfortable, and affordable rail travel during the Eid Transport period," Anne concluded.

Through the operation of the Kereta Ekonomi Kerakyatan, KAI expands public access to rail-based public transport while helping to maintain smooth operations throughout the 2026 Eid Transport period.
