KAI Eid Transportation Ticket Sales Reach 3,12 Million, Seats Still Available
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero)’s 2026 Eid Transportation ticket sales continue to show an increasing trend. As of March 15, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. Western Indonesia Time (WIB), 3.125.366 tickets had been sold, or 69,5 percent of the total 4,498,696 seats provided for Long-Distance Train and Local Train journeys during the departure period from March 11 to April 1, 2026. With this achievement, approximately 1.373.330 seats are still available for the public to use for travel during the Eid period.
KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba explained that the public travel trend had begun to emerge since the start of the Eid Transportation period.
“Demand for train travel began to increase in mid-March. Sales data shows that people have started making their homecoming journeys earlier, particularly on long-distance train services,” said Anne.
For Long-Distance Train services, ticket sales reached 2.886.263 tickets, or 80,8 percent of the total 3.571.760 seats provided. This means that approximately 685,497 seats are still available for the public to book for homecoming or return journeys.
Meanwhile, for Local Train services managed by KAI, ticket sales reached 239.103 tickets, or 25,8 percent of the total 926.936 seats available. Approximately 687.833 seats are still available for customers. Local train ticket sales generally increase closer to the departure date because most services can only be booked starting H-7 before the journey.
During the first four days of KAI’s Eid Transportation period, from March 11 to 14, 2026, KAI had served 689,318 customers on both Long-Distance Train and Local Train services managed by KAI.
The daily occupancy of Long-Distance Trains was as follows:
- March 11: 101.617 customers out of 159.404 available seats (63.7%)
- March 12: 126.208 customers out of 159.404 available seats (79.2%)
- March 13: 165.675 customers out of 163.432 available seats (101.4%)
- March 14: 185.866 customers out of 163.432 available seats (113.7%)
Anne explained that occupancy exceeding 100 percent occurs due to dynamic passengers, namely the pattern of customers boarding and alighting at intermediate stations.
“During a single long-distance train journey, one seat can be used by more than one customer on different routes. This allows the number of customers served to be greater than the number of seats available,” explained Anne.
Based on preliminary data as of March 15, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. WIB, long-distance train passenger movement remained high. On this day, an estimated 160.815 customers would travel by long-distance train, or approximately 98,4 percent of the total capacity of 163.432 seats provided.
Several trains with high demand during the Eid period include KA Airlangga, KA Joglosemarkerto, KA Sri Tanjung, KA Bengawan, KA Kahuripan, and KA Rajabasa.
Nevertheless, the public can still find available seats on several services, such as KA Argo Lawu on the Gambir–Solo route, KA Argo Anjasmoro on the Gambir–Surabaya Pasar Turi route, and KA Kaligung on the Cirebon Prujakan–Semarang Poncol route.
Anne added that customers can consider alternative travel options by changing their departure schedules, choosing different routes, or utilizing connecting train arrangements to find travel options that suit their needs. Information regarding schedules and ticket availability can be accessed through the Access by KAI application, KAI’s official website, and other official sales channels.
To ensure smooth operations during the Eid Transportation period, KAI, together with the Directorate General of Railways and the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT), conducted ramp checks on rolling stock and infrastructure. The inspections covered rolling stock readiness, railway track conditions, operational safety systems, and compliance with minimum service standards at stations and on trains.
In addition, KAI is operating an Integrated Eid Transportation Command Post and deploying 3.028 additional personnel at various service, security, cleaning, and level-crossing monitoring points.
On the digital system side, KAI has strengthened its Rail Ticketing System (RTS) through an infrastructure migration on January 21, 2026. The system is designed to handle transaction surges during the Eid ticket sales period, with a queue capacity of up to 25.000 transactions per minute, allowing the ticket purchasing process to run more steadily.
Along with increasing customer mobility, KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin also inspected the implementation of the 2026 Eid Transportation Command Post in the Daop 5 Purwokerto area on Saturday (March 14).
Upon arriving at Purwokerto Station, Bobby inspected several customer service points, from the ticket counter area and waiting room to the Integrated Command Post. He also reviewed access to the West Exit of Purwokerto Station, which is integrated with the Trans Banyumas service, to ensure smooth intermodal connectivity for customers.
On the occasion, Bobby greeted homecoming travelers waiting for their departures and engaged in dialogue with station service personnel. He also led the 2026 Eid Transportation Command Post Evaluation Meeting with the Daop 5 Purwokerto management team in a hybrid format.
KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin emphasized that the quality of service experienced by customers remains a primary concern during the Eid Transportation period.
“In addition to operational achievements, customer experience is our main concern. Customer smiles and smooth journeys are important indicators of the services provided by all KAI personnel,” said Bobby.
He also reminded all personnel to remain vigilant regarding weather conditions and ensure that all safety procedures are consistently implemented, particularly by operational personnel along railway lines and at level crossings.
“Through operational readiness, system strengthening, and the presence of personnel in the field, KAI continues to maintain railway services during the 2026 Eid Transportation period so that they remain safe, comfortable, and smooth for the public,” concluded Bobby.
