Eid 2026 Train Tickets Still Available, Early Homecoming Travel Becomes an Alternative Option
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) recorded that ticket sales for the 2026 Eid (Lebaran) Transport period covering departures from March 11 to April 1, 2026, continue to show an increase, reaching 2,118,756 tickets sold out of 4,498,696 total seats provided.
Sales data as of March 4, 2026, at 09:00 WIB show a temporary occupancy rate of 47.1 percent. Approximately 2.37 million seats remain available for the public to plan their homecoming (mudik) and return journeys.
The public can take advantage of earlier homecoming periods as an alternative to travel using trains that offer safety, comfort, and timeliness. In addition to providing departure schedule flexibility, this approach serves as a solution for those wishing to maximize their time in their hometowns.
For Long-Distance Trains, sales reached 2,068,399 tickets out of a capacity of 3,571,760 seats, representing an occupancy rate of 57.9 percent. Meanwhile, Local Trains recorded 50,357 tickets sold out of a capacity of 926,936 seats (5.4 percent). Local Train occupancy is projected to rise closer to departure dates, as ticket bookings open starting 7 days prior to departure (H-7).
Several dates with relatively lower occupancy rates for Long-Distance Trains include:
- April 1, 2026 (H+10): 22,154 tickets sold out of 161,100 seats (13.8 percent)
- March 31, 2026 (H+9): 33,785 tickets sold out of 161,100 seats (21 percent)
- March 30, 2026 (H+8): 51,657 tickets sold out of 163,432 seats (31.6 percent)
- March 11, 2026 (H-10): 40,846 tickets sold out of 159,404 seats (25.6 percent)
- March 12, 2026 (H-9): 60,419 tickets sold out of 159,404 seats (37.9 percent)
Favorite routes such as Jakarta–Yogyakarta, Jakarta–Semarang, and Jakarta–Surabaya recorded increased bookings. Nevertheless, seat choices remain available in sufficient quantities on select dates.
There are three favorite departure stations utilized by the public during this year's Eid homecoming period: Pasarsenen Station, Gambir Station, and Bekasi Station, which recorded the highest passenger volumes compared to other stations.
Vice President of Corporate Communication at KAI, Anne Purba, stated that Eid ticket booking patterns tend to increase gradually and are expected to peak from H-3 to H-1 prior to Eid, before rising again during the return flow period.
"Overall, seat availability remains open. We encourage the public intending to use train services to plan their trips early and utilize dates that still have lower occupancy rates," said Anne.
Anne added that passengers can consider alternative departure schedules, choose different routes, or utilize connecting train travel schemes to secure options tailored to their needs.
KAI continues to monitor ticket sales dynamics while ensuring operational readiness across fleet, infrastructure, and human resources to deliver 2026 Eid Transport services that are safe, comfortable, and punctual for all passengers.
