41,084 International Tourists Travelled by Train in February 2026
Rail travel continues to gain popularity among international tourists visiting Indonesia. PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) recorded 41,084 international tourists travelling on its train services throughout February 2026. Cumulatively, a total of 86,062 international tourists travelled by train during the first two months of the year, from January to February 2026, across KAI's major rail corridors.
This achievement continues the company's steady growth in international ridership over the past several years. Throughout 2025, KAI served 694,123 international tourists, up from 669,226 in 2024, 580,995 in 2023, and 300,708 in 2022. The continued increase reflects the growing preference among international visitors for rail travel as a comfortable and convenient way to explore Indonesia's destinations, with direct access to city centres.
KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba said the increase reflects the growing confidence of international travellers in the quality of Indonesia's railway services.
"We continue to maintain high service standards through punctual operations, clean and comfortable trains, and convenient digital ticketing. Our goal is to make every train journey an enjoyable and memorable part of the travel experience," Anne said.
Throughout February 2026, international tourist travel was concentrated at stations serving Indonesia's key cultural, heritage, and nature
tourism destinations. The ten stations with the highest number of international passenger departures were:
1. Yogyakarta: 6,652 passengers
2. Gambir: 6,609 passengers
3. Bandung: 4,033 passengers
4. Surabaya Gubeng: 2,278 passengers
5. Pasar Senen: 2,147 passengers
6. Semarang Tawang: 1,584 passengers
7. Malang: 1,179 passengers
8. Surabaya Pasar Turi: 1,068 passengers
9. Probolinggo: 907 passengers
10. Solo Balapan: 836 passengers
The prominence of Yogyakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, and Solo highlights the strong appeal of destinations known for their rich cultural heritage, distinctive character, and natural attractions. With railway stations located close to city centres, travellers can easily access major tourist destinations without the need for multiple transfers between different modes of transport.
The growing number of international tourists travelling by train also contributes to local economic growth. Increased visitor mobility supports the hospitality, culinary, local transportation, and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME) sectors in areas surrounding railway stations and tourist destinations. Rail connectivity not only provides a more efficient way to travel but also supports the sustainable development of Indonesia's tourism industry.
"Looking ahead, KAI Group will continue to enhance service quality and strengthen multimodal integration to provide international and domestic travellers with a more seamless, comfortable, and well-planned travel experience," Anne concluded.
