2026 Eid Tickets Are Still Available, Occupancy Reaches 42.5 Percent
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) recorded that ticket sales for the 2026 Eid (Lebaran) Transport period covering departures from March 11 to April 1, 2026, continue to move positively. A number of favorite routes such as Jakarta–Yogyakarta, Jakarta–Semarang, and Jakarta–Surabaya show an increase in bookings. On various departure dates, seat selections remain widely available.
Based on the update as of February 28, 2026, at 08:00 WIB, a total of 1,910,149 tickets have been sold out of 4,498,696 total seats provided. The temporary occupancy rate reached 42.5 percent, meaning approximately 2.58 million seats are still available for the public.
For Long-Distance Trains, sales reached 1,873,640 tickets out of a total capacity of 3,571,760 seats, with an occupancy rate of 52.5 percent. Meanwhile, Local Trains recorded 36,509 tickets sold out of a capacity of 926,936 seats, or an occupancy rate of 3.9 percent. Local Train ticket sales are expected to increase continuously closer to departure dates, as the majority of tickets can only be booked starting 7 days prior to departure (H-7).
As part of expanding public travel access during the Eid period, KAI introduced the Kereta Ekonomi Kerakyatan (People's Economy Class Train), which went on sale on February 25, 2026, for departure periods between March 11 and April 1, 2026. As of February 28, 2026, the Kereta Ekonomi Kerakyatan recorded 14,449 passenger sales out of a total capacity of 27,368 seats, representing an occupancy rate of 53 percent.
On several return flow dates, the occupancy rate of the Kereta Ekonomi Kerakyatan even exceeded 100 percent per trip date due to intermediate boarding and alighting passenger patterns along the route. This demonstrates a positive public response to the affordably priced service.
Dates with relatively lower occupancy rates for Long-Distance Trains include:
- April 1, 2026 (H+10): 18,617 tickets sold out of 161,100 seats (11.6 percent)
- March 31, 2026 (H+9): 29,812 tickets sold out of 161,100 seats (18.5 percent)
- March 30, 2026 (H+8): 47,339 tickets sold out of 163,432 seats (29 percent)
- March 11, 2026 (H-10): 32,964 tickets sold out of 159,404 seats (20.7 percent)
- March 12, 2026 (H-9): 53,457 tickets sold out of 159,404 seats (33.5 percent)
Vice President of Corporate Communication at KAI, Anne Purba, explained that Eid travel patterns show a gradual increase in the pre-Eid period, expected to peak from H-3 to H-1, and rise again during the return flow period.
"We introduced the Kereta Ekonomi Kerakyatan to provide a more affordable travel option for the public. The strong response indicates that this service has become a popular mobility alternative during the Eid Transport period," said Anne.
Anne added that the public still has many options for dates and routes with relatively lower occupancy rates. Passengers can consider schedule flexibility or utilize connecting train schemes to secure suitable routes and departure times.
KAI continues to monitor ticket sales dynamics and ensure operational readiness so that the 2026 Eid Transport runs safely, orderly, and smoothly, while providing optimal mobility space for the public.
