Ahead of Eid 2026, KAI Ensures Avtur Supply to Support Smooth Flight Operations at YIA
Yogyakarta remains one of the favorite destinations for the public ahead of Eid 2026. Flight activities through Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) have shown a growth trend over the past two years. Based on data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) of the Special Region of Yogyakarta, the number of domestic air transport passengers departing through YIA in January 2025 was recorded at 158,913 people, an increase compared to January 2024, which recorded 149,274 people. There was an increase of 9,639 passengers, or approximately 6.5 percent.
This growth in air mobility aligns with the increasing demand for aviation fuel. PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) recorded that aviation turbine fuel (avtur) distribution in January 2026 reached 10,614,520 liters, an increase compared to January 2025 at 8,349,580 liters, and January 2024 at 7,581,100 liters.
Compared to January 2024, avtur distribution in January 2026 increased by 3,033,420 liters, or approximately 40 percent. Meanwhile, compared to January 2025, there was an increase of 2,264,940 liters, or around 27.1 percent. This trend demonstrates a consistent rise in aviation energy demand over the past three years, including ahead of the 2026 Eid homecoming and return flow period.
Vice President of Corporate Communication at KAI, Anne Purba, stated that avtur transport is an essential component in maintaining smooth air connectivity, particularly during the Eid momentum when public mobility increases significantly.
"Every two days, one of our train sets departs carrying avtur to ensure flight operations at YIA continue to run smoothly," said Anne.
Distribution is carried out from Cilacap Station, Central Java, to Rewulu Station, Bantul, DIY. From Rewulu Station, the avtur is then supplied to YIA to meet airline operational needs. This routine shipping pattern ensures supply remains secure during periods of increased flight frequency.
Smooth avtur distribution directly impacts flight schedule certainty and public travel comfort. Flights operating according to plan support tourist visits, family trips, and business activities in Yogyakarta. The hospitality sector, culinary industry, local transport, and MSMEs in DIY also benefit from stable air connectivity.
Anne emphasized that the continuity of avtur distribution forms part of KAI's role in maintaining the national transportation ecosystem so that it remains connected and productive, especially during high-mobility periods such as Eid.
"We ensure avtur distribution runs smoothly so that flight operations at YIA remain stable. When air connectivity is maintained, public mobility is protected, and local economic activities continue to move. That is where the strategic role of railways present to support a connected Indonesia," Anne concluded.
